January 2018

Dear illustration enthusiasts,

Happy new year everyone! I used the latter half of December to get some well-earned rest (hope you did, too!). And now there are lots of plans for the coming year already, mostly things that have long been waiting for realisation. I'm really looking forward to starting right into them and somehow manage to finish them all (never works out, I always plan way too big ;))
Wishing you all a lovely 2018!

JUST FINISHED

Winter card: Three squirrels

I paint one winter postcard every year to send out to clients, friends and family. This one got finished only a short time before Christmas, so it was a close call to get all the cards out before the holidays started. I also did a postcard giveaway on social media and sent out about 80 free ones to Germany and the world (for everyone who wanted one and owned up in time). I'd never have thought so many people would care for one! Some folks even send back cards of their own (today even an original arrived! *c*) - it is super nice to find new cards in my letterbox every day <3

Art by (top left to lower right): Melanie Stoll, Miriam Böhler, Karbik, Charlotte Hintzmann, Sarah Stringhetta, Annelie Gab Kretzschmar, Karpour & Henrieke Goorhuis, Marie Seeberger, Alpha Ki

The squirrel postcards will go on sale from now on. Since my shop isn't back online yet, just send me an email if you'd like to order them or have a look at the catalogue.

And here is the making of. The original was painted in three different coloured inks entirely and took me about two days.

Cliché moms for transform magazine

I did this (intentionally) stereotype-heavy illustration for the newest issue of transform magazine. Their topic this time is Children - to have or not to have?

The article is about how society would like to have (and needs) many more new children, but doesn't care to get them from socially weaker classes. Please produce university graduate families only (well, well). The article also questions whether it has to be that children grow up to be the exact same as their parents, thus fulfilling outsider's expectations.

Sketch breakthrough

I discovered these super cool Pentel Water Brushes in my illustrator friend Marie Seeberger's pencil case. As it turns out, they are the ideal mobile sketching tool that I've been searching for all my life. My brain doesn't work well with drawing lines, I'm much more comfortable painting shapes and colours... but I don't want to mess with a complete painting setup wherever I go. These pens help immensely though, as I noticed when I test-sketched this bear while tabling at Weihnachtsrodeo Berlin.

More cards!

I found these old birthday cards I painted about a year ago that never got posted. And I thought now's as good a time as any to show them, so: Happy Birthday 2018 :)

WORKING ON...

Children's book and chasing bugs

Yep, I'm still onto that animal welfare children's book. Takes a long time, but it will be sooo cute once it's finished.
Also, my website still is offline *sniff* Keep your fingers crossed, one of these days I'll finally get it back on (I hope).

EVENTS

Nothing!

No events planned for January except privately visiting museums to draw some 2000 year old statues. Maybe I'll show you the sketch afterwards.
