A Simple Act of Generosity

by Jerry Russell, Washington Conference vice president for finance

Consider the account of Jesus riding into Jerusalem recorded in Matthew 21: He rode on a borrowed donkey over coats and tree branches spread out on the ground while the crowd sang hosannas and praises to the King.

In just a few short days He would be crucified to save all of humanity. This is one of the few places in Scripture where Jesus’ glory is recognized here on earth, but it wouldn’t have happened but for the generosity of the donkey’s owner.

We don’t know anything else about the donkey’s owner, but his simple act of generosity fulfilled a 500 year-old prophecy found in Zechariah 9:9 that Jesus would enter “humble, and mounted on a donkey.”

That simple selfless act wrote the donkey’s owner into the story of Jesus. The Widow with the coin and the boy with the five loaves and two fishes are also examples of people who scripture does not say much else about, but their selfless acts are also written into the story of Jesus.

Like the borrowed donkey, Jesus rides into town on the backs of our generosity, and we then are written into the story of Jesus. Generosity comes in many forms; financial, giving time, loving and caring, prayer, etc.  Just know that whatever you are doing, you are doing for the King.
What's the best gift of generosity you've received?

90 Days to Wholeness

When we initially planned 90 Days to Wholeness, we envisioned participants carefully picking one key area of growth. Based on the responses so far, we have a group of overachievers who are seeking growth in two, three, or four key areas! This is a good thing!

Start your own 90-day journey. We have a whole list of growth suggestions to get you started! Pick one area or multiple areas of growth! May you find wholeness as you surrender your all to Jesus in response to His gift of all for you.

What You Should Remember About the Waco Tragedy

Television specials are being promoted on major networks and cable channels leading up to the 25th anniversary of the Branch Davidian/Waco tragedy in April 2018. It may be helpful for Adventists to have a few facts about the people and events highlighted during these media programs — not only for themselves, but to help answer follow up questions from interested neighbors, colleagues and friends regarding the Branch Davidian cult under Koresh.

The First Offering

The first ever offering for Washington Youth will be January 13 with a focus on Adventist Education.

Thank you for generously supporting Washington Conference’s desire to place our children and youth front and center in our allocation of time and resources. We want to joyously follow the wisdom of Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV): “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Give offline with your tithe & offering envelope, or online at washingtonconference.org/give or your local church website.

Thank you for helping instill Hope & Wholeness in a new generation of Adventists!
