Welcome to the new Eco-Congregation Scotland Enews featuring the ten things you need to know about Eco-Congregation Scotland this month.

1. Annual Gathering date and theme announced
The 2018 Eco-Congregation Scotland Annual Gathering will take place in Edinburgh on Saturday 28th April. The theme is "Pass the Planet" and focuses on the international year of young people. We are encouraging as many young people as possible to take part. The full programme will be announced shortly, but registration is already open.

2. Annual Gathering Photo Competition
As part of our Annual Gathering 2018 we are running a photographic competition. Photos can be in any of ten categories and taken on a camera or phone. Judging will take place in early April and the winning photographs will be displayed at our annual gathering on 28th April in Edinburgh. Entry is now open.

3. Carbon Footprint of Scottish Households drops by 25%
The BBC reports that the carbon footprint of each Scottish household has fallen by about 25% since 2009. This something that Eco-Congregation Scotland has been encouraging over that period so congratulations to everyone in congregations across the country who have helped this happen. Lets keep going!

4. Silver award for St Columba's by the Castle.
Congratulations to St Columba’s by the Castle on achieving their Silver Eco-Congregation Scotland Award. Our assessors commended them for their excellent communications and the many opportunities for ‘eco’ themed discussions within their Forum, Fellowship hour, Bible study and House groups.

5. Bronze Award for Queensferry Parish Church
Queensferry Parish Church is the latest congregation to receive one of our new awards.

6. Scottish Government Launches Public Consultation On Its Draft Fuel Poverty Strategy.
The Scottish Government has launched a public consultation on its Draft Fuel Poverty Strategy and is looking for the views of community organisations. Home Energy Scotland is running a free workshop in Galashiels on the evening of 17 January. IT is also possible to request your own local consultation.

7. Huge Majority Call For Zero Emissions By 2050
The Scottish Government has published its analysis of over 19,000 responses received to its consultation on the new Scottish Climate Change Bill. 99% of people who responded to the consultation want the Government to commit to net zero emissions by 2050 at the latest, and increased action in the next decade with a stronger 2030 target.

8. Inverkip Parish Church Wins Scottish Green Apple Award
Congratulations to the Eco Group at Inverkip Parish Church who have followed up achieving their first Eco-Congregation Award and being highly commended in the Church Times Green Awards with a Scottish Green Apple Award.

9. Why Haven’t We Turned Our Backs On Hydrocarbons Yet?
