Happy New Year!  We hope you all enjoyed the festive break and are ready and raring for the year ahead.  We have lots to look forward to in the upcoming term which we hope you will join us for.
News
We are pleased to be welcoming a new staff member to our team.  Paige Morgan is our new Pre-School Assistant, she will be working on alternate Monday and Friday sessions enabling her to become familiar with all the children and the daily routine.

During the inset day we welcomed a Speech and Language Therapist to the pre-school to give staff a two hour introduction to Makaton.  Makaton is sign language which really benefits all children, especially as they start learning to talk.  Associating an action with a word helps to embed and recall language which therefore aids communication.  If you have signed up to a stay and play session keep your eyes out for staff using Makaton.

Kirsten attended a very stimulating course on Schema’s at the end of last term and she fed back about what she had learnt at the inset day. For more details please click here.

Requests to Parents

Peanut Allergies - A gentle reminder that we have children with peanut allergies in pre-school.  Therefore we ask for no peanut products to be included in lunchboxes.  Could I also ask you to be mindful if your child has peanut products before coming to pre-school.  The allergic reaction can be caused by touch, for example from round their mouth, or on their hands so if your child touches a table this can transfer enough peanut oil to cause an allergic reaction.

Wet Weather - We are still in the wet season and so if your child walks to school in wellies please can you remember to bring a spare pair of shoes for them to change into.  Wellies are not ideal footwear to wear inside pre-school.

Comfort Books/Boxes - The comfort book/boxes that your child brought in on their first day continue to be loved and affectionately looked at.  It would be lovely to keep adding to these books/boxes as your child's interests evolve and new experiences are explored. Please feel free to take them home at any time to update with photographs of days out or of new interests as they are a great tool for encouraging talking and sharing of home experiences.

Parent Survey - We will be sending round a link shortly for you to complete the annual Parent Survey.  Please can I urge you to take the time to complete this and share your views so we can work together to further improve the Pre-school.

Cubetto - We have an exciting new resource, purchased out of fundraising money, called a Cubetto, which we will be introducing to the children (and staff!) this term, initially on a Friday.  The Cubetto is a simple wooden robot which helps children learn how to code, without the need for a computer screen.  Fot more details please click here.
Persona Dolls - I would also like to introduce you to Ben and Jasmine, our Persona Dolls, who come to pre-school on Fridays for storytelling sessions.  To hear more about how we use them with your children, please click here.
