Happy new year, <<First Name>>!

I've been in NJ for Christmas and New Year's, and my flight today got cancelled, so I rescheduled and I'll be back in "La La Land" by this Saturday.

Post Carnegie

Thanks so much to those who were able to make it out to Carnegie Hall for The Way of the Rain! It had a great turnout and was well-received. Not sure yet what the show will be like next year, but hope to see you again, then, regardless!

More Student Films

This month, I'd like to share with you Babushka and Reboot, which are both a complete 180 from the animations I shared with you in October. Both of these I also scored while I was a student at USC.

For the score of Babushka (private Vimeo link, plot summary on IMDb), I recorded live guitar (Sean Patrick Mulholland) and violin (Yue Qian and Roberta Yee). Although we only had two violinists, we multitracked them so many times that it ended up sounding like a full string orchestra. The inspiration for the feel of the score draws heavily from traditional Russian urban romance music.

For the sci-fi score of Reboot (Vimeo link, plot summary on IMDb), I used electronic/synthesized sounds to represent the artificial intelligence and acoustic/natural instruments to represent humanity. Often, I blend the two or distort the acoustic sounds to mirror that conflict throughout the film.

Looking Forward

My composing work on Holly Star is essentially complete. Now all they need is distribution! Toward the tail end of last year, I also began work on several other new short films which I hope to be able to share with you soon. Next week, I'll start doing some work for Christopher Tin, who was the first person to win a grammy for video game music. His very popular Swahili setting of the Lord's prayer, "Baba Yetu," also appeared in The Way of the Rain.

Thanks for reading, sharing, and keeping up! Hope you were able to relax a bit during the holidays and are off to a great start to 2018.

Stay tuned...
