China
Tanker Collision
The Sanchi tanker, owned by National Iranian Tanker Co., continues to burns and is at risk of exploding after colliding with a Chinese freighter on Saturday evening. According to officials, the tanker was carrying 136,000 tons of oil from Iran to South Korea when it collided with the CF Crystal, which had been transporting food from the United States to the Chinese province of Guangdong. Of the 32 crew members on board the tanker, only one body has been found so far, all 21 Chinese nationals on the freighter were rescued. According to reports, this is the second collision for the National Iranian Tanker Co. In 2016 another tanker collided with a Swiss container ship in the Singapore Strait, though that incident caused no injuries or oil spill.

Australia
Extreme Heat
While the United States is gripped in an Arctic chill, Australia has been battling with extreme heat. On Sunday, the Sydney region had set a new record in almost 80 years with temperatures at 47.3 degrees Celsius (117 degrees Fahrenheit). The scorching weather melted roads, started wildfires and left thousands without power. Officials issued total fire bans and were urging residents to drink extra water and to limit their time outdoors because of air pollution resulting from the hot weather.
