Choir Picture Day is January 24th

Wednesday, January 24th, will be choir picture day. Students will take their photos during their individual class periods. They will need their full concert attire including socks and shoes.

Students will have about 5 minutes to dress at the beginning of class and will have time after the photo to change back into school clothes. CLICK HERE to download and print the picture order form if you wish to purchase a photo package. There is also an option to purchase individual or "buddy" student photos in their dress or tuxedo. Ignore the “sports” logo. Or...just think of us as a "team"!

IMPORTANT! Friday, April 20th is our Masterworks Concert. This is an important, graded performance for students in our advanced choirs. Based on past experience, we feel it is important to remind students and families in advance in order to avoid potential conflicts (i.e. Coachella - buy tickets for the 1st weekend instead of the 2nd, etc.). Please do not schedule other plans or appointments on this date, and please work to resolve any conflicts which may currently be an issue. Thank you.

Save the Date - Café Samo is Coming

Don't miss our annual cabarét-style performance series, coming up on February 2nd & 3rd!

This student-led concert event, under the direction of our Café Samo student 2018 directors, Hannah Cohen, Zoe D'Andrea, Sumta Sandhu and Pablo Solano, features acts from talented singers and musicians performing selections from an array of musical genres, including pop, rock, musical theatre, country, and more!

Tickets will be for sale in advance online this year! Reserve your seat in the Humanities Center at Samohi. Tickets for both evening performances on February 2nd and 3rd at 7:30pm are $10 for students, $15 for adults, plus a special $10 matinée performance on Saturday, February 3rd at 3:30pm. Shows are held in the Humanities Center (HC) at Samohi, a smaller venue with limited seating, so be sure to get your tickets with reserved seating in advance! Tickets go on sale on Thursday, January 24th after school - online (until we sell out!) and in person (one day only, outside the choir room!).

Look for more info, including a list of performers and a link to purchase tickets online, coming soon.

Winter Concert Photos & Video

Our December 15th Winter Concert, Motus Perpetuus XIII, was a huge success, thanks to the hard work and talent of our Samohi Choir students under the amazing leadership of Jeffe Huls and the incredible support this year from Inna Kizler. Thanks, also, to our Samohi Choir families and volunteers for the help and support for this concert, and for the continued partnership in bringing excellence to our choral program.

You can CLICK HERE to see and download photos and video from our Winter Concert, thanks to Denise Kato and her beautiful photography!

If you have photos to share, please CLICK HERE. We love to archive and share great photos from our parents and the community!

Samohi Choir Pajama Pants

At long last, Samohi Choir pajama pants are in stock - in all sizes! If your Samohi Choir student ordered a pair of pajama pants and did not receive them, outstanding orders were delivered to the choir room just before Winter Concert.

Want pajama pants and didn't order yet? Pajama pants and other Samohi Choir Spiritwear will be on sale at Café Samo on February 2nd & 3rd.

Samohi Choir Representing at All State

Five talented and hardworking Samohi Choir students have been selected to participate in the California All-State Honor Choir. Honor Choir rehearsals and concerts will take place in San Jose, California in February as part of the California All-State Music Education Conference. Congratulations to Seniors Jeffery Cole and Makeda Bullock-Floyd, Junior Rachel Lamell, Sophomore Weston Kerekes, and Freshman Colin Inatsugu!

Student Arts Contest

The ArtsMatter would like to invite our senior choir students to participate in their Students Arts Contest for the chance to win college scholarships and other arts prizes!

The contest prompt is customizable, so nearly any student project from this year would be eligible. The prompt “LA is ____. Am I LA?” allows students to create works that address themes of identity, culture, place, or other concept(s) related to the prompt. Submissions will be accepted in any of these four categories: Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Creative Writing and Film and Media Arts.

**New Extended Deadline** March 1st, 2018

This is a great opportunity for our creative and talented students.

This contest is being offered in partnership with the Getty’s arts initiative, Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA. To learn more about the Student Arts Contest and how to participate, please visit www.artsmatter.org.
