Proposal Abstract:
Cross-difference interactions are, "opportunities…to learn about diverse groups inside and outside the classroom, [that] have an appreciable impact on students’ [educational experiences]” (Hurtado, 2005, p. 595). Although many postsecondary institutions tout their inclusive approaches and diverse programming, the lack of empirical evidence to determine whether students are truly developing the intercultural competencies to reap the “benefits of diversity” remains indeterminate. This research integrates geospatial mapping technology with educational research to create a tool that visualizes students’ cross-difference interaction.
