Legislative Update for January 19
VSSA
It has been a good week for gun owners in the State Senate this week.  The bulk of Governor Northam's gun control legislation has been turned back.  In all, 24 bad bills have been defeated.  Only a handful of bills remain active in the upper chamber and the committee has completed it's work on firearm related bills.  The House of Delegates has yet to take up any firearm bills.  READ MORE

Amicus Brief Filed in Duncan v. Becerra
VSSA
A few weeks ago VSSA let members know that the Association had been asked to join our fellow state associations in an Amicus Brief in Duncan v. Becerra, a case challenging California's ban on magazines that hold more than 10 rounds.  The brief was filed last Friday and members interested in reading a copy can do so by clicking here.  VSSA would like to think the members who responded to the request for a special donation to the VSSA War Chest to help offset the costs joining the brief.

America's First Freedom
The book is called “Toys, Tools, Guns & Rules,” and Golob, in a YouTube video, explains that she was inspired by her own situation of having two young children in her home. Having grown up in a gun-owning family, and continuing that tradition in her own home, Golob wrote the book as a simple way to get the message to children that guns are tools and one needs to be safe around them.  READ MORE

Skill Set: Slam Fire
The Tactical Wire
During a class this week a student’s pistol experienced a couple of “slam-fires.”  Twice, during an empty reload with a Browning Hi Power, the pistol fired when he cycled the slide to chamber a round.  I was watching him carefully – we had just started working on empty reloads and I was watching him carefully - so I know his finger was nowhere near the trigger when this occurred.  READ MORE

The VSSA War Chest Needs You!
This year, 2018, will be jam packed with legislative and political activities.  The General Assembly convened January 10th, Primary Elections for congressional races, and the General Election will be held on November 6.   The Virginia Shooting Sports Association War Chest is the fund used to pay our legislative lobbying costs.  We also supply support to candidates for public office who share our views on the right to keep and bear arms by informing our members when campaigns need volunteers for various activities.  The VSSA War Chest needs money to carry out its mission.  VSSA members have always been generous in supporting the War Chest, and a number of members have already made donations for this year.  Over the last few years, donations to the War Chest have fully supported the legislative efforts of the Association.  Those interested in helping continue VSSA's legislative success can make a donation by clicking here.  Thanks to our members for your past support.  VSSA could not have been as successful as we have been without you.
