CPD WORKSHOPS

Dance of Soma & Psyche I:
Foundations in Working with the Body

CPD Workshop for Psychotherapists

6th & 7th April 2018

This experiential workshop will be of value to psychotherapists, counsellors and trainees who wish to work with their clients in a more embodied way, and who want to gain skills in working with the connection between mind and body.

In this workshop we will explore the body’s natural resources and self-healing tendencies and learn tools for helping your clients to regulate as well as ways to transform difficult sensations and emotions that clients ‘hold’ in their bodies. We will also explore how to work with the client’s personal boundaries, and how the body can be a powerful resource.

This includes working with grounding and finding a safe place in the body, finding the inner rhythm of pendulation (contraction and expansion), embodiment and working with the ‘problem’ and ‘antidote’ through movement. We will also explore how creative imagination and elemental visualisations could be used with clients who have difficulty connecting with their bodies.

This 2 day course will cover:

  • Grounding techniques and finding a safe place in the body
  • Learning tools for transforming difficult sensations and emotions that clients ‘hold’ in their bodies, including working with anxiety and physical pain
  • When to work with touch to regulate overwhelming feelings and hyperarousal
  • Utilising a variety of exercise to strengthen personal boundaries
  • Exploring embodiment and discovering resources through the body
  • Using movement to strengthen the mind-body connection

We will draw on different techniques from the practices of somatic experiencing, body psychotherapy, dance and movement psychotherapy, somatic trauma therapy and mindfulness meditation, to enhance the repertoire of interventions that you can apply in your psychotherapeutic work.

In this experiential workshop you will also have the opportunity to explore your own relationship with your body – finding your inner dance between psyche and soma.

Dance of Soma & Psyche II:

Body and Healing Trauma CPD

19th & 20th July 2018

This experiential CPD workshop will explore Peter Levine’s Somatic Experiencing approach to healing trauma, based on natural ‘animal-body’ trauma processing. It will also explore the way that shamanic traditions use animal guides in healing rituals by embodying them and following the guidance of the instinctual animal within. We will inquire into how this approach can help us when working with trauma with our clients.

OTHER GROUPS & COURSES

Four Elements DMTM – Embodied Therapy Group

24th April – 29th May 2018

6 Week Group

TUESDAYS 7.15pm – 9pm

Four Elements DMTM ~ is an embodied therapeutic group based in Chiswick in West London..

The psychotherapeutic approach that we use integrates: body-oriented psychotherapy, the four elements transpersonal psychotherapy model, dance and movement therapy and mindfulness meditation.

The aim of Four Elements DMTM therapy group is to:

  • Explore the relationship between our mind, emotions and body
  • Get in touch with and begin to release emotional material stored in the body
  • Find a new way of processing and working with difficult sensations held in the body ~ which often accompany feelings of stress, anxiety, anger, grief and trauma
  • Develop a more compassionate relationship with ourselves

This group is aimed at those who wish to work in an embodied way - within the context of a small therapeutic group (approximately 8-10 individuals).

Four Elements DMTM uses the Transpersonal Psychotherapy model based on the elements: Earth / Water / Air / Fire. In helping people to connect with these four outer elements, they are encouraged incrementally to re-connect with the inner landscapes:

Earth = Body, Water = Emotions,
Air = Mind and Fire = Energy

As we explore and move through these four aspects of ourselves, various techniques are utilised to process and release emotion, blockages and constriction that are held within the body-mind.
