It is now three months since we returned to Zambia, and it has been a wonderful experience with its own wrinkles. We shall share a bit of this journey with you. We left Canada wearing winter jackets, which was conducive for our 12-hour layover in the Netherlands (we had a wonderful tour of the of Amsterdam) and was met by the 30-degree Celsius Zambia heat.

Ibex Hill Baptist church couples retreat
The staff of ACU, and friends of Ibex Hill Baptist Church welcomed us back, and we quickly felt right at home. Our relationship with our friends are deepening as we minister together. Additionally, we are learning more and more to trust in the Lord and to rely on his grace for the return was extremely difficult for our children: they struggle with being back in Zambia. They handled our first term so well that we did not expect this one to be so difficult. The Lord has been gracious, and they are beginning to settle in now. Homeschooling is going on fine, and the kids are doing very well at school.

Sadly, three weeks ago Carlos’ uncle, who suffered a stroke through Hurricane Maria, passed away. We are very concerned for the family in Dominica, who are enduring so much, but we know that it is through these times the Lord is preparing us to work in his vineyard. It is very difficult to be so far away from family during these struggles.
Certainly, the work here is invigorating, for the Lord is blessing ACU immensely. We have started the new school year with new students into the Scholar’s Programme. Additionally, we have three new students who have bypassed the Scholar’s Programme and joined the degree students.  This term (the first three months of 2018) Carlos is teaching three courses (History of Thought 1 & 3 i.e. a contrast between secular philosophy and the biblical worldview), and (Grand Narrative i.e an overview of the Bible.)
Celebrating Christmas
Besides lecturing at ACU, Carlos has received several preaching engagements. Diana, as usual, is serving with the ladies at Ibex Hill Baptist and also served with an orphanage caring for children at camp. Additionally, she is doing graphic design for Ibex Hill, which she, very much, is enjoying. What an awesome relief it is for her to work on the computer without the excessive strain on her eyes. The Lord has blessed her with a successful surgery and she has steadily improved. The double vision is completely gone, and she is able to return to contact lenes. We rejoice in the healing power of our God. He who has called us to this work is bearing us up in his hands.
Heavy rains brought us to circle Pastor Kayombo to hear his sermon.
We are most grateful to all of you prayed for her recovery. We were truly blessed to spend the months with family and friends in Canada. Our supporting churches, you have been stellar—we appreciate the love that you have showered over us. Words fail to describe our gratitude for all of who are supporting us prayerfully and financially to minister the Word in this land.
Prayer requests:
  • Zambia is recovering from a Cholera outbreak which ravaged the city of Lusaka, pray that the spread of it will stop.
  • Please pray that the Lord will provide the funds to find outside programming for the children to get them more active in hopes of making new friends
  • That Carlos family's home in Dominica will be able to be repaired quickly
  • Additional missionaries to join ACU’s faculty
  • Salvation of incoming students into the Scholar’s Programme
  • Our love for the Lord may deepen
