Dear Friends.
Last year's Candlemas this past winter was so successful that folks have asked for another such observance.
This year, February 2 falls on a "First Friday," and will feature the Sacred Arts Chorale, Beau Bledsoe, and Edward Straub. The first Candlemas featured my book of sonnets; this time instead, the poetry will include Shakespeare, Auden, Eliot, Herbert, and Donne, with one sonnet of my own, indebted to Traherne.
This observance of the traditional Christian feast day is honored with references to many faiths around the world, from the Paleolithic to the present, in the poetry for the occasion, with music and ritual prizing our heritage, this hour, and days to come.
Celebrating the love of light in all religions, whatever your tradition or none, you are invited to bring candles to be blessed, in keeping with the olde Candlemas tradition.
The program officially begins at 7:00pm, but arrive early and enjoy complimentary hors d'oeuvres, the prelude on the Gabriel Kney Pipe Organ and a special display of art.
Faithfully yours,
Vern Barnet
