A Word From Dr. A

What an interesting week this has been with our beautiful snowfall and subsequent drop in temperatures! I hope you were safe and warm over these last few days. Thank you, dear parents, for your flexibility and patience with all the changes. We typically will follow Gwinnett County Public Schools in the event of severe weather, but reserve the option to make our own decision based on conditions on the Hill here. We will continue to use the Parent Alert text service through Renweb for weather-related cancellations or emergency dismissals. Please let us know if you are having any trouble getting those texts. We use the mobile numbers in your Renweb account; you are welcome to update and add numbers at anytime yourself or we can help you do that. Just let us know if you need assistance!

Thursday was our first Digital Learning Day (DLD) of the year though our teachers practiced some DLD work earlier in anticipation. KHCS has done DLD's to keep your children as active in their learning as possible when out of the regular classroom for weather. Our policy is to institute a DLD on the second day in a row that we miss school. We believe this gives some breathing room for families to enjoy the occasional snow day, while compensating appropriately for missed instruction on lengthy times away from school. I welcome your comments on how to make our DLD's more effective in the future. To that point, please click here for a brief survey regarding this DLD.

And speaking of surveys, thank you for your outstanding participation in the Climate and Culture Parent Survey this fall. As a matter of fact, your participation rate was over triple the required minimum required by our AdvancEd accrediting agency! Great job and thank you! 2nd, 6th, and 11th grades had the highest participation rates! There were lots of positive take aways from the survey including the great participation by our first year parents! That is so encouraging to see our new families jumping in and making KHCS your own! I'll share more details from that survey in a later Paw Prints so be looking for that!
