During the Webinar, two recipients of the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring (PAESMEM), the nation’s highest award for STEM mentoring, and their mentees, will share strategies to building successful STEM mentoring relationships that impact lives, careers and our nation’s workforce. Dr. William J. (Jim) Lewis, acting assistant director for NSF’s Education and Human Resources Directorate, will set the stage with opening remarks.
The panelists include:
· Dr. Juan Gilbert, chair of the Computer Science and Engineering Department at the University of Florida, and his mentee, France Jackson, a doctoral student of human-centered computing, currently employed as a user-experience researcher and designer at Intel.
· Dr. Sheila Humphreys, emerita director of diversity in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at the University of California, Berkeley, and her mentee, Cheyenne Nelson, a recent University of California, Berkeley physics graduate who is currently a research associate at the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab on the University of California, Berkeley campus.
· Dr. Julie Johnson, program director, NSF, will serve a dual role: moderator and NSF representative to discuss NSF’s commitment to mentoring and resources that may help further STEM mentoring.
