‘Hitting the Mark’ – Musically!

Dear parents/carers

I am incredibly pleased and proud to announce that John Hanson has been awarded the ‘Music Mark’. This is a national award that recognises the value the school places on Music Education.

John Hanson has a proud tradition of music both as a part of a broad and balanced curriculum, and as an engaging extra-curricular activity – something we continue to be committed to.

Many students, past and present, have benefitted from music during lesson time, individual and group lessons with peripatetic teachers from Hampshire Music Service and by taking part in bands, choirs and performances.

The facilities for Music at John Hanson have also played their part in supporting the enthusiastic approach many students have towards this subject. The introduction in September 2017 of Music Technology has only enhanced the musical offering we are able to make to our students. Alongside the ‘traditional’ playing of instruments, students now have the opportunity to use our dedicated suite of iMac computers to learn how to create music in the digital world we are increasingly living in.

I would like to publically thank Mr. Adams (Head of Music and Drama) for his contribution to Music at John Hanson and the school being recognised in this way. The quality of provision doesn’t just happen, but is a product of hard work and dedication.

I am sure with the curricular and extra-curricular opportunities afforded to students and the facilities at their disposal, Music education at John Hanson will go from strength to strength.

Have an enjoyable weekend with your children

Regards
Russell Stevens
Headteacher

Tanzania 2019 Expedition
It is very exciting to be giving our Year 9 and 10 students the opportunity to travel to Tanzania with Camps International during the summer of 2019. Here students will be working on a range of sustainable and meaningful community and conservation projects before trekking for three days in the foothills of the Usumbara mountains.

Parents and interested students are invited to attend our Parents Presentation Evening to find out more. This will be taking place on Wednesday 31st January at 18:30 in the Learning Resource Centre (LRC)

The annual Book Fair will be arriving on Tuesday, 23rd January.  It will remain in the LRC for one week and will help to promote Literacy in our school.  There will be over 200 new teen titles starting from £2.99.

There is something for everyone, even the most reluctant reader.  The more books we sell, the more FREE books we get for our school.  There will also be competitions and free entries to attractions in the book fair leaflets.

A reward will be given to the Tutor Group who buys the most books during the Fair.  It will be open at break times in the LRC with the Librarians managing the sales, there will also be a raffle ticket issued with every book purchased.

Please try and support this valuable event for our school.  Remember the books start at only £2.99.

Thanking you in advance
