Setting aside the endless mud, January has more to be said for it than popularly imagined.  West Cornwall is usually Britain's warmest place at this time of year as the gulfstream washes past our end of the peninsula. Wales remains invariably crisp, clear and cold.  And both are relatively empty. Beyond that, here are a few more reasons to be cheerful as we hit early 2018:

1. As a Friend of EDS, you can join us and Lunch for a Fiver from 13 - 27 January (from 19 - 27 January at The Old Coastguard). More on this below.

2. We will be opening up our newly redecorated top floor bedrooms at The Old Coastguard, which you can stay in as soon as we reopen.

3. Two Wine Suppers to book into now for March: one at The Gurnard's Head on the 23rd and our Spring Wine Supper at The Felin Fach Griffin on the 16th.

To all of you thanks for your support over the busiest Christmas period and a Happy New Year from us both and the entire team.

LUNCH FOR A FIVER

Lunch For A Fiver
Lunch For A Fiver
Years ago, the FT ran a lip-smacking scheme under which a second guest could lunch for £5.  They stopped it after a year but we didn't and we bring it back yet again from this Saturday 13 January (from 19 January at The Old Coastguard where our extended closure delays its reappearance). Until Saturday 27 January across EDS.

Mention "Lunch for a Fiver" when booking and bring along a copy of this email. One voucher may be used for each two guests: the second diner will be charged £5 for their food. Please click below to book a table. And use the voucher as often as you like.

A BRIEF CLOSURE

Closure
Closure
As ever we've locked the doors on each inn this Winter for a few days of paint and mend: this year a slightly extended closure at The Old Coastguard runs until Thursday 18 January for a complete refurbishment of our top floor rooms, as well as lots of work behind the scenes to streamline our kitchens (above right). The brilliant Coralie Rogers from Room at Hay will be redecorating a bedroom or two at The Griffin as well. Ask for Room 1 when you next have the chance to stay in Felin Fach.

If you'd like to be one of the first to stay in one of our brand new bedrooms, we remind you that the Winter Escape continues until 22 March outside of Fridays and Saturdays and half term week. It could not be simpler: a good supper (no restrictions or supplements), a comfortable bed and the best of breakfasts.

All this from just £155 a couple in Cornwall and £165 in Wales. Enquire below about what seems to be rapidly diminishing availability.

A BIG THANK YOU

A Big Thank You
A Big Thank You
A Big Thank You
We're humbled by the support our guests give us by buying our gift vouchers every year. And it's because of this continued support that we've been able to commit to donating 5% of our December gift voucher sales to local charitable organisations.

Subject to a final count, it look as if this year you've helped us to raise over £1,600 to share between the likes of St. John's Family Centre in Brecon, CHICKS and Penzance Breadline Centre in Cornwall. Something our teams are really proud of and which can really make a difference to the work of organisations which inevitably find funding challenging in these straitened times.

FOOD FOR THE SOUL

Food For Soul
Our EDS+ Yoga Escape returns from the 2 - 4 March and is now in its fourth year. A weekend of relaxing and reconnecting, yoga sessions taught by Leif Olsen at Garbo House in Penzance whilst staying at The Old Coastguard. The perfect opportunity to get away from it all and let us look after you while you look after yourself.

Also coming up in Spring 2018 we see our Wild Food Walks return at The Old Coastguard and The Gurnard's Head lead by Caroline Davey of The Fat Hen Cookery School. And we're also introducing some one-day Art Workshops in West Cornwall this year, find out more here
