Announcement of IMA2020 Board
Retiring Board Chair Claire Cuccio has announced the new members of the International Mokuhanga Association board who have been elected for the next three year term during the preparations for the 2020 International Mokuhanga Conference. Tentative dates for the conference are November 18 to 22, 2020, and the Head Office has selected Nara, the eighth century capital of Japan, an hour south of Kyoto as the location.

IMC Tokyo Head Office: Yasuyuki Sato, Director;Yoko Kanahama is the new Tokyo Head Office Administrative Assistant; in addition to organizational work, she will function as bi-lingual liaison with the IMA.
Advisory Board: advisors will include several past board members; other positions to help with technology, outreach and fundraising are being established.
Congratulations to each of you for your vision and thank you for your generosity in stepping forward to continue to develop the International Mokuhanga Association in promoting the growth of mokuhanga globally, and for developing a strong network of artists and related specialists.
Setsuko and Hiroki Morinoue, the essential organizers of IMC2017 Hawaii, are stepping down to make way for “younger, more energetic members.” IMC2017’s beautiful execution and wealth of experiences would not have taken place had it not been for their perseverance, resourcefulness and fast response during a difficult time for the organization after the loss of IMC founder Keiko Kadota in January 2017. We extend profound thanks to them!
Tuula Moilanen, board member from the 2011 and 2014 conferences, is stepping aside as an official board member but will remain an advisor to Annu Vertanen in organizing IMC2020. Her breadth of experience, dedication and investment is apparent.
Michael Schneider, artist and educator, is stepping down. We are grateful for his input over the years and for offering to serve as a liaison to Geidai (Tokyo University of the Arts) and engage print students, particularly in light of the probability that IMC2020 will take place in Japan.
IMA Website and IMC2017 Hawaii Documentation
Jay Hartwell at the University of Hawaii has admirably organized the conference documentation, including videos of keynote speeches, demonstrations, roundtables and most of the paper presentations. The documentation is a rich resource that is now available on the new IMA website. Mike Lyon set up the site, and April Vollmer organized the site content, including video documentation, photos and other information including a pdf of the full conference program. While the websites are still evolving, the main International Mokuhanga Association website is mokuhanga.org, and the IMC2017 Hawaii site with documentation is 2017.mokuhanga.org
If paper presenters wish to adjust content, please contact web designer April Vollmer for changes. We hope that making this information public will promote the development of the International Mokuhanga Association and its mission to encourage international understanding through a study of mokuhanga.
A Word from Retiring Chair Claire Cuccio
In 2010 I sought out participation in IMC openly as a way to become more acquainted with the living network of woodblock printmakers in Japan. Working to develop the conference with its diversity of artists, artisans and specialists evolved into a far richer experience than I could have imagined at the time. I am thankful to each of you with whom I've collaborated or chanced to cross paths--for the experience and knowledge you have passed on to me over this course of time. Shifting into IMC's fourth iteration after Keiko Kadota's expansion of her mokuhanga residencies, IMC, as well as its emergent association IMA, is under excellent leadership to cultivate a greater world of creators and ideas still and assert the medium's ongoing relevance. Looking toward 2020, I encourage all of you with your own visions for IMA to step forward and continue to help grow the organization and its mission. And in the meantime, where I might be helpful to any of you, please do be in touch.
