Bus Stop opens this Thursday, February 1
Clayton Community Theatre is proud to present Bus Stop, running February 1-11. Be sure to catch this talented ensemble cast bring to life William Inge's timeless story of love in all its forms.
Bus Stop follows eight strangers through a night at Grace's Diner in rural Kansas, when a bus becomes snowbound between Kansas City and Topeka. Diner owner Grace Hoylard (Erin Struckhoff) and waitress Elma Duckworth (Lucy Sappington) tend to their stranded guests. For many of these guests, the severe weather is the least of their concerns. Cherie (Britteny Henry) is a Kansas City nightclub singer who has been kidnapped by Bo Decker (Michael Bouchard), a brash rodeo cowboy determined to marry Cherie and bring her to his ranch in Montana. Dr. Gerald Lyman (Joe O'Connor), a three-times divorced university professor, perpetually travels all around the country just to prove to himself that he is free, but quickly comes to realize that he is anything but. And Carl, the dutiful bus driver, seeks to soothe the loneliness caused by his itinerant profession and establish more than a "just passing through" relationship with Grace.
Director Sam Hack says "we learn about [the characters], they learn about themselves, relationships develop and grow and change...some of it is relatively serious, some is humorous, nothing is extreme. They are real people, living their lives for these few hours in a very realistic way. It is essentially, I think, an examination of love in various forms and shapes and how love affects the people who are living with it."
