How to Live the Life You Want

Do you work hard but never seem to achieve the things you want? Setting goals can help because it forces you to think about your ideal future, and can serve as the necessary motivation to turn that vision into reality.

The first step to setting goals is to literally write down the "big picture" of what you want to achieve in the next 5-10 years. Then, break that goal down into the small steps that you must hit daily, weekly, monthly, etc. Those steps become your plan to achieve each of your ultimate goals.

Goals are set on a number of levels:

Career – How do you want to make a living? Or, what level do you want to reach in your current job?
Education – What education is necessary to work in your field? What else do you want to learn?
Financial – Do you want to own a home?  How will you support yourself in retirement?
Family – Do you want to be married?  Are you prepared to become a parent?
Attitude – Is any part of your mindset holding you back?
Physical – Are there specific health goals you want to achieve? Losing weight?  Quitting smoking?

Keep Your Heart Healthy

It may be a symbol of love, but the heart is actually a hardworking muscle that beats about 40 million times a year, which is approximately 2.5 billion times by the time a person reaches their 70th birthday!
However, without proper care a heart can wear out. In fact, heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States.

The good news is heart disease can often be prevented.  A few tips from the American Heart Association:
  • Use spices instead of salt to season food.
  • Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • Get active every day, no matter your age.
  • Stop smoking.
  • Get regular checkups to monitor blood pressure.
