Approved: 2018 Budget

City Council has approved the 2018 Business Plan, which sets service levels and property taxes. The budget includes a 1.75% increase to deliver City services and a 1% increase to replace and renew Barrie’s infrastructure. This year's focus is roads and growth, with funding for major projects like Harvie Road crossing of Highway 400 and Barrie-Simcoe Emergency Services Campus, and funding to address resurfacing or renewal work on some major roads. Get more details.

Now available: Barrie Plow Tracker

You can now track the progress of Barrie’s road plows, and see when streets were last serviced! The new Barrie Plow Tracker — also available via Pingstreet — displays a live map with vehicle icons and streets coloured according when Winter Control equipment last travelled the streets. The tool is currently in the pilot stage and will continue to evolve based on user feedback.

It’s Winterfest time!

It’s the upside to this cold season! Barrie Winterfest returns with ice sculptures, lumberjacks, wagon rides and more this weekend. There’s something for everyone, so join the fun February 3 & 4 in various locations. Visit barrie.ca/winterfest for full details and join the Facebook event listing for any updates throughout the festivities.

New name announced for Downtown Theatre

Barrie’s downtown theatre is now Five Points Theatre, presented by Pratt Homes & Pratt Development. The new name comes after a month-long community-wide competition; more than 600 submissions were narrowed down to five finalists on which residents voted. Five Points Theatre was the most popular with 40% of the votes (970). Pratt Homes & Pratt Development will pay $300,000 for the 15-year naming rights, to be paid within the first four years of the agreement.

BMC naming rights for sale

The City wants to hear from individuals or businesses interested in securing the naming rights to the Barrie Molson Centre (BMC). The current name will be replaced by the end of 2018. The 110,000 sq. ft. arena is home to OHL’s Barrie Colts and has an established reputation as the region’s premier sports and entertainment venue. Learn more.
