GGGI Workshop on "Provincial Biomass Energy Planning" kicks off in Viet Nam

On January 25, GGGI in collaboration with the Soc Trang Department of Industry and Trade (DOIT) organized a consultation workshop entitled “Provincial Biomass Energy Planning”, which was led by GGGI Director-General Frank Rijsberman and Mr. Vo Van Chieu, Director of Soc Trang DOIT. Held in the Soc Trang province, the workshop was attended by around 80 representatives of the private sector and investors as well as officials of the Soc Trang Department.

The workshop is under the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) to scale up renewable energy, in particular, biomass energy in Viet Nam. The outcome of the project will support an increase in green energy production, and consequently a reduction in emissions, through the adoption of biomass energy planning that will be implemented and result in the financing of biomass waste-to-energy projects.

GGGI Director-General Frank Rijsberman holds a press conference with journalists in Viet Nam

On January 23, GGGI Director-General Frank Rijsberman held a press conference with a group of 10 local journalists in Hanoi.

During the press conference, he said “Viet Nam needs to take the opportunity to promote renewable energy, which will have the dual benefit of reducing emissions and creating green jobs while decreasing the cost of energy production.”

Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung has suggested that the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) continues supporting Viet Nam in developing its legal framework, in studying to enhance its management, promoting communications work to raise awareness of green growth, and sharing information and knowledge on green growth.

He made the suggestion at a meeting in Hanoi, on January 23, with the Director-General of GGGI Frank Rijsberman.

The hosts also urged GGGI to help train and develop human resources, and include green growth in the socio-economic development plan; analyse the feasibility of evaluation tools for Viet Nam’s green growth and pilot them in several provinces, cities, and key sectors.

Viet Nam commits to green growth: Deputy PM 

Viet Nam takes the matter of saving energy and resources and protecting the environment serious, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung said while receiving Director-General of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) Frank Rijsberman in Hanoi on January 23.

Green growth is a need and a must of all nations in the world, Dung said, affirming that Viet Nam is accelerating economic restructuring, and reforming its growth model in an intensive, cost-effective, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly manner.
