PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Welcome to 2nd semester!  This semester we look forward to the Winter Whirl Dance on February 10th sponsored by the Academic Boosters; the One Act, Wiley and the Hairy Man (2/8 & 2/9); the Musical, Guys & Dolls (4/26, 4/27, & 4/28);  a quick winter break day off on February 19th; course selections for the 17-18 school year during March; M-Step, PSAT, and SAT testing beginning Tuesday, April 10th for 9th-11th grade students; AP and IB testing in May, and a plethora of celebrations honoring the Class of 2018 graduates.  It will be a busy, yet exciting few months.

Last week we celebrated the Spirit of Jimmy Gerken with Kabookie Week! Students enjoyed Jimmy's favorite foods and clothing from PJ day to college sweatshirt day to donuts, pizza, and popcorn.  An assembly last Monday honored the Spirit of East which Jimmy so loved. The drumline performed, students competed in Kabookie games, and students and staff were acknowledged and celebrated for acts of kindness and generosity. Overall, the week provided our students with the opportunity to understand Jimmy as a person and celebrate his legacy of kindness, understanding, compassion, positivity, and enthusiasm.

Happy 2nd Semester and Go East!

Principal

EAST GRAND RAPIDS SCHOOLS FOUNDATION

Blank Wall Becomes a Student Showcase
Middle School teachers Jill Fouch and Kevin Vance looked at an empty wall and saw an opportunity to showcase student-created projects and provide a “sensory area” with tactile displays and interactive modules.  A $1,500 EGR Schools Foundation grant transformed a hallway into an attractive and engaging space where students share their work, so they can be enjoyed by others.

The Foundation provides support for educational enhancements in addition to providing funding for critical programs.
