Eugene FSMA Training:  Preventative Controls

Tue 4/24 - Thur 4/26, Location: TBA

On September 17, 2015, the FDA published final rules for Preventive Controls for Human Food. According to Part 117.180(c)(1) of the regulation, every food manufacturing facility covered by this regulation will need to have a “Preventative Controls Qualified Individual”(PCQI). This specialized training course will focus on the FSMA rules and because of its complex nature, will need to be attended by those who have a working understanding of the HACCP method.

The PCQI must conduct certain activities related to the Food Safety Plan (including development and preparation of the Food Safety Plan, validation of the preventive controls, records review, and reanalysis of the Food Safety Plan). Successful completion of this course is one way to meet the requirements for a Preventive Controls Qualified Individual. This course is the standardized curriculum recognized by FDA.

This 2.5-day course will be led by Dr. Richard Dougherty.  Dr. Dougherty has completed the Lead Instructor Training for FSPCA Preventive Controls for Human Food.

Each attendee will receive a training manual and a certificate issued by the Association of Food and Drug Officials (AFDO).

Find more information and register by 4/20 here.

Yogi Tea Board Announces New CEO

Yogi Tea is beginning 2018 by announcing Giancarlo Marcaccini as the new CEO. He will succeed Conrad Myers, who has led the company’s rapid international growth as CEO since 2012.

Previously, Marcaccini served on the board of Yogi’s corporate entity, East West Tea Company LLC. An innovative food industry entrepreneur, he is a joint founder and Managing Partner of both Cosa Dolce and Villa Dolce Gelato, based in Los Angeles, California and Phoenix, Arizona.

In announcing the CEO transition, East West Tea Company Board of Managers Chairwoman Sat Bachan Anthony said CEO succession planning was a major board priority over the past year, and the organization is fortunate to have arranged a hand off period from Myers to Marcaccini.

Sat Bachan noted that Yogi Tea is well positioned for the future. “We are infinitely thankful to Conrad for leading our company for the past five-plus years. During this period we have experienced incredible growth and achieved major milestones in the U.S. and in Europe. We successfully launched a new Ready to Drink product line in Germany and have brought other new, innovative products to the U.S. and overseas markets.  Our new manufacturing facility in Eugene, Oregon is virtually complete and we have hired additional team members to support our expanded capacity and future growth.”

Regarding his new responsibilities, Marcaccini says, “It is an honor to be joining a team and company that is experiencing such tremendous success. Yogi Tea stands for everything I believe in, and I look forward to further serving the Yogi Tea community and mission.”

Myers’s immediate plans are to work with Marcacinni to facilitate this transition.  “Once that’s in place, I will look at other opportunities that interest me and fit well with my record of accomplishment and experience.”

Elixir, Falling Sky Brewing, Ninkasi Brewing Co., San Carlos Quince, and WildCraft Cider Works each earned a 2018 Good Food Award, given out a few weeks ago at a gala event in San Francisco.

In the beer category, Falling Sky Brewing was awarded for its Dreadnut Tropical Stout, and Ninkasi Brewing Co. was honored for its Pacific Rain Pale Ale.  In the cider category, WildCraft Cider Works earned an award for its sage cider.  In the preserves category, Alvadore-based San Carlos Quince won for its quince paste.  In the spirits category, Elixir won for its Calisaya & Fernet dei Fratelli Loreto.
