Te Kāhui o Taranaki Iwi Trust
Education Grants

Te Kāhui o Taranaki Iwi are now offering three types of grants to our members:

  1. Tertiary grant
  2. Tertiary grant - Vocational studies
  3. Secondary school grant

Te Kāhui is committed to assisting our members to realise their educational aspirations and realise academic success. Our education grants are guided by the Educational Grants policy and the key principles of the policy are:

  • To facilitate opportunities to be well educated and to participate in life-long learning;
  • To promote and reward excellence;
  • To enable equal access to quality education and training opportunities, and
  • To harness a commitment to the objectives of Te Kāhui o Taranaki Iwi.

Taranaki Iwi Whakapapa Kōmiti

Tēnā koutou e te iwi!
We're putting the call out to encourage Taranaki Iwi pāhake who hold whakapapa knowledge to join our Whakapapa Kōmiti.
When we receive membership registrations, we bring together our Whakapapa Kōmiti to go through each one and validate the whakapapa connection to Taranaki Iwi that has been submitted in the application.
The Kōmiti meets on a quarterly basis, but if there is an influx of applications, a special hui can be called to assist in processing the applications.
If you're interested or if you know of an aunty or uncle who would be great for the Whakapapa Kōmiti, please get in touch with Angie at angie@taranaki.iwi.nz or on 06 751 4285.

This year Taranaki Mounga Project are planning to release another 50 toutouwai to supplement those released last year.

COMMUNICATIONS AND VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR

Taranaki Kiwi Trust

Employment

A new role has been established within the Taranaki Kiwi Trust to join their team, involved in direct conservation work protecting and increasing the knowledge of western brown kiwi throughout Taranaki.

Hours: 15 hours per week (with some weekend work),
1 year contract, (with potential for extension)

Location: You will be working from home (must be in Taranaki), but some travel will be required

Remuneration: Hourly rate to be discussed. Based on skills and experience.

Position purpose:
1. To support and coordinate activities of volunteers associated with all streams of Taranaki Kiwi Trust kiwi work.
2. To provide regular communication with Taranaki Kiwi Trust (TKT) members, the public and extend networks via email and social media.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. To coordinate activities of volunteers
• Develop and organise multiple opportunities for people to engage in kiwi conservation (e.g. kiwi call surveys, recorder analysis, trap lines, trap building etc)
• Coordinate training for the above
• Coordinate the TKT kiwi call monitoring programme
• Provide opportunities for volunteers to engage in a team environment
• Key Health and Safety Officer

2. Communications
• Manage the TKT Facebook Page, prepare weekly posts, & respond to engagement
• Manage TKT website and update with information, activities, articles and photographs as required
• Write and send out TKT newsletters and media releases
• Maintain TKT members database
• Input into updating promotional materials
• Provide advocacy opportunities to groups and public

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
The ideal candidate will have:
• A passion for conservation
• Experience with Facebook pages, websites, MS Word, Excel, Publisher and relevant online tools and computers generally
• Enjoy working with people to encourage a happy team atmosphere
• Writing for impact
• Knowledge of health & safety practices
• Working or volunteering in the non-profit sector
• Full drivers licence

No formal qualifications are required, but a relevant tertiary qualification would be an advantage.

Curious Minds Participatory Science Platform (PSP) - Funding round now open

Funding

The PSP supports community-driven projects which are scientifically robust, educationally valuable, and focused on locally relevant research.

Key points: Any community group can apply including (but not limited to) schools, kura, hapū, clubs, trusts, and businesses.

Applicants can apply for up to $20,000 excl. GST per project

There is approximately $162,000 worth of project funding up for grabs

Projects should aim to be completed by May 2019

The deadline for this application round is 5pm Thursday 15 March 2018.

How does the application process work?
Venture Taranaki will support you and help connect you to the appropriate science/technology/community/education partners.
Work with VT and project collaborators to develop a project application
Submit full application by 5pm Thursday March 2018
Decision panel to review applications and meet with applicants to discuss projects
Successful applicants notified and contracts signed!

DEV ACADEMY SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships

Dev Academy are offering 42 scholarships of $7000 each to successful Māori applicants.

$7,000 off course fees
$3,500 payable by successful applicant upon acceptance into the programme
Funded through Te Puni Kōkiri
Does not include living costs

Te Uru Rangi is a scholarship programme designed to help Māori into high-value jobs and to support the development of Māori language and culture within technology.

Recipients of the scholarship complete an online preparation course (from anywhere in the country) at their own pace before participating in the full immersion web development bootcamp for 9 weeks in either Auckland or Wellington.

The fund is part of the Ka Hao Māori Digital Technology Fund, managed by Te Puni Kōkiri and MBIE.

There are 42 scholarships in total, each worth $7,000.
