January 2018
Hey Everyone,

January is often considered to be somewhat of a slow month in the poker world, which makes me that much prouder to let you all know that this past month we set a brand new record at Cardplayer Lifestyle with almost 12,000 unique visitors! We had only crossed the 11,000 threshold once before, and that was four years ago... Based on our overall growth during this part year, I'm confident we'll surpass this new mark at least a few times in 2018. Thank you all so much for reading and sharing the content we publish. Your support means the world to me!

Thanks, once again, to our official poker tour sponsor, Next Level Poker. It's obvious that there's a lot that separates poker pros from recreational players. But WHAT exactly? This month, WSOP bracelet winner and Next Level Poker founder Chris "Fox" Wallace gives us a glimpse into the mind of a poker pro. Be sure to check it out.

IN THE NEWS

A little over a week ago, I had the honor of being interviewed by the venerable BBC World Service. I was a guest on two of the programs (programmes? 😀) in which they explored the recent news story of a dealer swindling $6 million worth of casino chips from a VIP room in Macau. You can here the segments starting at the 11-minute mark here and the 19:05-minute mark here. Have a listen and let me know how you think I did.

Also this month, PokerSprout's Reid Young released a video interview that he conducted with me over this past summer at the World Series of Poker. Over the course of our conversation, I talked a lot about the history of Cardplayer Lifestyle as well as recognized a very important person who has helped to pave the way for this site's success over the years. As many of you have read my words and heard my voice before, but perhaps never seen me on-screen, here's a great chance to do just that 😀. Be kind though; we filmed it after midnight, LOL.

"RUNNING WELL" 1,000 km charity poker challenge: BIG update!

As mentioned in last month's newsletter, I'm planning on running another 1,000 km for charity this year, making the same $1 per km pledge. I've hit the treadmill quite a bit in January and am happy to report that I've completed 95km thus far. Let's hope the positive momentum continues!

This year's beneficiary, Save a Child's Heart, aims to improve the quality of pediatric cardiac care for children in developing countries. You can learn more about their amazing work in this short video.

To improve on last year's challenge, I have set a goal of raising a total of $10,000 for charity. It was great to start off the year on the right foot, with Run It Once: The world's leading poker strategy community, as a matching sponsor.

The campaign has already started attracting some press, too! Thanks so much to Kim Yuhl for mentioning us in her article on USPoker.com.

I'm happy to let you all know that two great, kindhearted people have come on board with pledges of 5 and 25 cents per km, respectively. Thanks so much to Simcha Simon and (a returning donor from last year's campaign) Michael Pagano!

I'm thrilled to also welcome the addition of two more sponsors: PokerStars, the world's largest poker site, and PokerStars Team Online Pro Jaime Staples, who will each be matching my pledge dollar for dollar towards Save a Child's Heart in 2018.

That means that one month in, we're already at $4,300 in total pledges! I guess I better be sure to make it to the finish line.
😀

With charitable endeavors, there's always plenty more room for additional sponsors, so if you or the company you work for would like to make a pledge (all monies donated directly by you), please email me.

As with last year's challenge, you're all invited to follow my progress via Twitter at #charitypoker1000km.

As always, you can check out a sampling of some of this month's most interesting and popular articles below.

And of course, your feedback, constructive or otherwise, is most welcome.

Thanks, as always, for your support and best of luck at and away from the tables!
