A Message from the Principal

Hello Apollo Eagles!!

As we move into the second half of the school year, you will see intentional efforts made to actualize our mission statement which states, “Our Mission is to create a safe and caring climate and culture in which we prepare, engage, educate, empower and inspire all learners in partnership with their surrounding community to be successful in today's and tomorrow's society."

The first half of the year has been full of a great number of successes, in the classroom, on the field of play, and on the stage.  Students should be proud of what they have achieved!!  Together, let’s work towards achieving even greater heights.  Students, this means taking that an extra look at assignments before they are handed in, spending additional time practicing instruments or preparing for that game or activity.   Let’s look for opportunities to show what it truly means to be an Apollo Eagle!

In alignment with our mission of "creating a safe and caring climate and culture," between now and the end of the school year, Apollo High School, in partnership with the St Cloud Police department, will conduct random canine sniffs.  The main reason for conducting the sniffs is for the overall safety of our students and staff.  These sniffs will be conducted in the school parking lot and in the school locker areas.   No student at any time will be in direct contact with the canines.  Canine sniffs of this kind have been conducted in a number of other schools and have proven to be successful in encouraging a drug-free learning environment.

After each sniff, communication will be sent out to families and staff regarding the outcome.  Please know this activity allows Apollo High School staff the opportunity to be proactive in deterring any future issues in our building.   Please know that my door is always open and I welcome your feedback.

Thank you

Al Johnson
Principal

Apollo Senior Awarded U of M Scholarship
December 8, 2017
Surprise! William Clark, senior at Apollo High School, was shocked to be awarded an academic presidential scholarship from the University of Minnesota.
Clark's parents, teachers, principals and counselor surprised the senior with Goldie the Gopher and University of Minnesota representative, Maria K Jaramillo.
The scholarships are awarded after careful review of a student's application to the university.
"Our scholarship review process is actually very straightforward," says Jaramillo. "Student's don't have to do anything additional to be considered for academic and merit-based aid with their application. The students are reviewed automatically...it's a holistic review that will consider the student...There is strong emphasis on a student's academic performance, leadership, community involvement and activities. Basically, well-rounded students are great candidates.
Congratulations!
William Clark, senior at Apollo High School

(School Messenger System) will also be used to send messages to all staff, as well as
parents/students, to announce school closings and late starts due to inclement weather
conditions.

Winter weather and emergency situations are not predictable, and they may happen at any time. The purpose of the weather-related closing plan is to assist parents/guardians and students to be better prepared to deal with emergency situations and reduce their effects.  Parents are encouraged to prepare for emergency closings.  Special child care arrangements should be made which could be used in the event of a late start, early release, or a school closing.

Ultimately, the parent/guardian should make the final decision whether a child should attend school during severe weather.
