It is less than 2 weeks until the 16th edition of the Club La Santa 4 Stage Mountain Bike Race Lanzarote (#4stageMTBlanzarote). The races will take place from February 3rd to the 6th and will again have 4 days of action in an idyllic location on the island of Lanzarote.
This year has an exceptional lineup of pro bikers, competing within stunning landscapes, over volcanic and desert terrain. The unique atmosphere at Club La Santa will set the scene for this 4 stage MTB race - the only official UCI race in the Canary Islands.
The event fills an interesting gap in the UCI calendar, and in addition offers participants the chance of scoring valuable points at the UCI world ranking, a great way to escape the winter-coldness in central Europe.
Lanzarote has an ideal climate for mountain biking throughout the whole year, and Club La Santa provides perfect facilities to spend a few days break in a fully equipped, sporty and active environment.
The volcanic and sandy terrains are the core elements of the race, which guarantee a unique competition. The four stages are suitable for all levels and you can sign up for any of the stages of the race individually.
With a great history and extensive experience in organizing the race, Club La Santa has once more found new routes capable of satisfying all tastes and skill levels. The level of difficulty of the event increases as the days progress.
Another advantage of the race is the possibility of sharing memories and experiences with a huge number of international PRO bikers, who enjoy starting their season here.
Sergio Mantecón took the victory in 2017, but in 2018 the list of foreign PRO bikers is even more impressive than on previous occasions.
The Portuguese David Rosa, Olympian in Rio de Janeiro, will be one of the top contenders for the victory. In addition, he already knows the race after having competed last year. Among the newcomers of the race, is the young Englishman Grant Ferguson (World Cup ranking 56). The German UCI ranked No. 77 Ben Zwiehoff will repeat participation and has already been reaching out for the title in 2017 and so will the 2015 overall male winner Søren Nissen, who is hungry for a comeback on the podium at this year’s race. Swiss rider Konny Looser is also a biker with great international results. One of the hottest Spanish competitors is the current Spanish Singletrack Marathon champ Ismael Ventura - overall and individual stage winner in previous editions.
The female category is still very open, although Mayalen Noriega, who knows the race from previous participation, will be a sure candidate for the podium just as Danish Champion and youngster Caroline Bohé.
No matter what happens, the only official Canarian UCI XCS race is characterized by having a unique profile which guarantees excitement until the last day, where everything can change at the last minute.
