Act now to save the Lincoln Park Pool.

The decision to close the David Schulz Aquatic Center (AKA Lincoln Park Pool) is wrong for so many reasons.

  • 5 Northside pools have already closed in the past 20 years
  • Black children drown at a rate 3 times as high as white children
  • It's one of the last places in the city that black kids can learn to swim!

Here are FIVE things you can do:

One: Join the Press Conference & Protest:
Thursday, January 25th, Courthouse Room 203R
8 am Press Conference
9 am County Finance meeting,

We plan to speak to the press and then take the issue in to the County Board Finance Committee meeting at 9 am to ask them to find a way to fund the Lincoln Park Pool.

Two: Call the County Executive, Chris Abele: 414 278-4212

This was his choice for balancing the County Parks budget.

County Executive Abele is using his wheel tax feud with the County Board to make cuts to services INCLUDING CLOSING THE LINCOLN PARK POOL. This would leave thousands of families and children without access to swimming lessons and SAFE water recreation. Please call the County Executive's office at 414 278-4212 and ask them to find a more equitable way to balance the County budget.

Three: Sign the Online Petition:

https://www.change.org/p/chris-abele-stop-the-closing-of-schulz-aquatic-center

According to the County Executive's office the decision was arbitrarily made because the Aquatic Center's budget coincidently matches the needed budget cut!  We believe they can take a look and find a more equitable solution.

Four: Call The Parks Director: 414-257-7275

The new Parks director seems happy to follow the County Executive's political vendetta against the County Board rather than trying to figure out a way to operate the parks equitably. Tell the Parks Director, Jim Sullivan to find away to cut the budget equitably.

Five:  Contact your County Board Supervisor

Use this Link: http://county.milwaukee.gov/CountyBoard. Tell them that this decision must not stand

Pool closings over the years have disproportionately effected African-American neighborhoods.  This trend has to stop here! If we are to call ourselves "Water City" we have to make sure kids have equal access to water recreation. "Splash Pads" are not good enough.

 - It's just not fair!

Please call the County Executive's office at 414 278-4212 and ask them to find a more equitable way to balance the County budget.
