Dear <<First Name>>,

This weekend Cortes Island Museum is sponsoring two interesting events:
Ecuador Oil Pollution Case

Brought to Canada

Sunday, January 28

Rex Weyler will be speaking about the ecological crisis in the Ecuadorian Amazon rainforest, the consequential plight of the Indigenous Cofán, Siona, Secoya, Quichua, and Huaorani people and the role that Canadian courts may play regarding those seeking compensation for the inhabitants.

Rex has visited the communities in Ecuador and has been working on this groundbreaking case, now being heard in the Ontario Superior Court. He will show slides of the affected communities and discuss the case in Canada.

Manson’s Hall
Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Presentation starts at 2 p.m.
Refreshments will be available. Everyone is welcome.
Admission is free. Donations are appreciated.

Donations received at the door will be divided between Museum public programming and Frente de Defensa de la Amazonia (FDA). Front for the Defense of the Amazon is the coalition of 80 Amazon communities impacted by Chevron’s pollution. FDA is the legal beneficiary of the Ecuador judgment, responsible for the trust account for a remediation. Remediation is expected to take 10 to 20 years due to the severity of the damage.
