Trans Pennine Upgrade - consultation starts this month
Highways England is consulting on improving road connections across the Pennines between the Manchester and Sheffield city regions.
The Trans-Pennine Upgrade is a critical part of a £15 billion investment in England’s motorways and major A-roads from 2015 to 2020 – the largest investment in a generation.
The existing route provides a key connection between these two important northern city regions, but it suffers from significant congestion, poor journey times and reliability, and high accident rates.
The consultation runs until 25 March.

£2m cash injection for Buxton Infrastructure
High Peak Borough Council has been successful in obtaining a commitment from the Government's Housing Infrastructure Fund, to build a new roundabout and access roads from Fairfield Common to the new housing sites allocated in the adopted Local Plan.
The proposals will be good for business at Tongue Lane, who will benefit from a new route into the industrial estate thus reducing the need for business traffic to go past residential homes in Fairfield. The new road will also provide supply chain opportunities and will enable a new site allocated for business growth to also be unlocked.
Further details will be announced soon.
