Dates to star in the diary

Well, it's fair to say that while many may dread January, it's been a bumper month for us here at HR Star! We started working with another two new clients and are looking forward to continuing to build our client base throughout the year.

Last month we hosted a workshop for Forwards Gloucestershire, the county's first stop for disability employment. As part of this we spent time with a small group, showing them how to prepare for employment, such as interview skills, and behaviour in a working environment during a fun, interactive session which everyone enjoyed.

We're also excited to mention that we'll be exhibiting at this year's Gloucestershire Business Show, which takes place at Cheltenham Racecourse in May. Stay tuned to find out more and we do hope that if you're planning to attend on the day, you'll pay us a visit!
Make mental health the star of your workplace culture

January may have seen us come up against 'Blue Monday' - deemed the most depressing day of the year - but for many, mental health is an issue which affects them year round.

Last month, I was invited to write a blog on spotting the signs of mental health for Start Up Donut.

It can often be difficult to identify whether an employee is suffering from ill mental health, as many people hide their symptoms due to the stigma surrounding it - particularly in the workplace.

Anyone that knows us, knows that we always promote creating an effective and positive workplace culture, which puts the wellbeing of employees at its heart. So it's imperative that employers and managers know how to recognise potential issues. If you're unsure, take a read of the blog and hopefully it will help.
Building star relationships

When we start working with clients, we really are in it for the long haul. We invest as much time and effort as possible into each and every company and organisation we work with and endeavour to integrate ourselves into their cultures, essentially becoming 'one of the team'.

It's always wonderful to receive positive feedback from those we work with. We've been working with kate & tom's now for about three years, after they were referred to us via word of mouth. When we started working with the company, it had become so focussed on growth that it had started to lose track of the people within the business. So we were brought on to help take things back to basics, restructuring teams at all levels in order to best help the business to grow and offer recruitment advice.

Michael Foster, founder of kate & tom's, said: "Kelly has become a key member of the management team. She's a good source of advice and a great sounding board. By getting the right people in place, we've been able to grow the business and keep it happening. Working with HR Star has enabled us to do that. They're friendly, helpful and insightful."
