Greetings friends of SiMODiSA and a happy month of Love!

We are settling well in our new home at the OPEN Workspaces in Sandton, Johannesburg (www.open.co.za). If you are ever around the area, come and say hello to the team on the 1st floor. It is exciting being part of a bigger ecosystem and interacting with keen startups that are well on their way to success. Gone are the days of working in silos. The beauty about plugging yourself into a shared working space is that there is a natural interaction with like-minded people, a natural flow of ideas and chances are, you will bump into someone who might need your services, or someone who can help you along your journey. All SiMODiSA members qualify for 50% discount using the code SIMODISA!OPEN on the OPEN community membership. Visit https://www.open.co.za/membershippartners

On the policy side of things, SiMODiSA has been invited by Minister Naledi Pandor of the Department of Science and Technology to be part of the review panel for the proposed amendments to the Intellectual Property (IP) Rights from Publicly Financed Research and Development Act ( No51 of 2008). This review panel is led by NIPMO (National Intellectual Property Management Office) and amongst many desired outcomes of the review is to get the entrepreneurship community to be aware of the benefits and incentives provided so as to ensure better commercialization of ideas. We will keep you posted on the process and look out for surveys that we will send your direction as we want your thoughts and inputs around this matter.

Interesting new partnerships are brewing with more private sector companies wanting to commit to supporting entrepreneurial growth in South Africa. Watch the space.

Our entrepreneurship digital home is growing and we are proud to have collaborated with several key players in the entrepreneurial ecosystem, including Legal Legends – a legal start-up which gives entrepreneurs and small businesses access to a wide range of legal services at fixed prices, whilst making sure the quality of the services delivered are of the highest standard and provided at a price that is understandable and carefully aligned to the value added to your valuable business or life. One of the services provided is a trademark registration package. Learn more about this here.

Do you provide support to small and growing businesses (SGBs) in Gauteng, South Africa? Then don't get left off the map!
ANDE SA is conducting an entrepreneurial ecosystem mapping of the Gauteng Province. The map will provide a snapshot of support available for SGBs in Gauteng, particularly township areas. This will help identify gaps and opportunities in Gauteng's Entrepreneurial Ecosystem. The survey questions relate to basic information pertaining to your services and focus areas, which will be shared publicly in an "ecosystem snapshot map". The survey should take 10 - 15 minutes to complete.
