Art Competition Launched on Anniversary of Women's Suffrage

The Representation of the People Act 1918 was a vital step towards the rights women have today, and the centenary of that Act is an important opportunity for us to reflect on our progress. That we’ve seen two female Prime Ministers in recent years shows just how far we’ve come.

That’s why I’m encouraging schools and community groups across Watford to mark the occasion. Whether it’s just chatting about the issues over a cup of tea, or taking part in my art competition, there are so many ways for people across our community to get involved.

Students from local schools are invited to get creative and design anything from a suffragette banner or sash, to a badge, photo or drawing. The winner will be announced later in the year and will receive a prize, as well as a visit to the Houses of Parliament. Get in touch for more details.

There's still more to do, and I look forward to working with people across Watford to ensure we create an even more equal society.

Local Businesses Working Together

I recently met with leading businesses in Watford to discuss how we can promote and better our town. This is a fantastic initiative and it was great to see the community coming together to work for the better of our town. I’m really proud of Watford, and how much progress we’ve seen in the last few years. But it's particularly encouraging to see how much more Watford has to offer!

You're invited on a Tour of Parliament

Ever thought about visiting the Houses of Parliament? When I was first elected, I was surprised how many people hadn't been, especially as we all own a tiny piece of it! That's why I began organising evening tours.

If you’re interested in looking round the House of Commons and House of Lords, as well as finding out more about what an MP does, then get in touch now.

Update on Campaign to Save Nascot Lawn

This week, I have written to a Health Minister to ask that NHS England investigates the local Clinical Commissioning Group's (HVCCG) decision to withdraw funding for Nascot Lawn. Nascot Lawn is a respite centre for children with complex and severe disabilities. It's vital that this fantastic centre stays open.

I have requested a meeting at the Department of Health to discuss this in more detail. I will make sure to keep local residents updated.
