February 3, 2018

Dear IB Families,

I hope everyone has had a great start to the new year!  Here's my confession--I don't love January.  All the pressure of "new year, new me" and resolutions that fade within weeks AND the cold!  It's just not my favorite month and I'm always glad when we turn the page to February.

Despite my personal feelings about the month, January in WWHS IB is nonstop and extremely productive.  Mr. Lundberg and Ms. Malynn conducted the Writing Workshop for our juniors and we spent several days off campus for that event.  These juniors are AMAZING and we have really enjoyed working so closely with them this month.  They are off to a good start and have just received their supervisor assignments so we are well on our way to seeing the next group of Extended Essays take shape.  This is a multi-step process that requires a lot of encouragement.  If you have a junior, please take time to engage with him/her about the chosen topic and how the research is going.  You will enjoy those conversations and those interactions will help keep your child focused and motivated.  We are all here to help support so if you have any concerns, please let us know.

In addition to the Writing Workshop, we conducted admissions assessments for 250 applicants interested in joining us in 2018-2019.  This is an exciting time for our IB Program and we couldn't do any of this without your support!  If you have not yet joined the IBPO, please consider doing so.  The advocacy and support from that group are the reason we have been able to accomplish so much in such a short time.  For more information, please click the link below.

Two events that we are very excited about are the upcoming IBPO Parent Social and the 10th grade DP Information meeting for our students.  Please see below for more information about both of these events.

Have a wonderful weekend,
Dr. Ritchie

On Tuesday, February 6, the DP teachers and I will be meeting with our 10th grade students to complete course selections for junior year.  The students will receive information about DP requirements and options for courses.  They will hear about CAS, Extended Essay, and TOK.  This is a student-centered event but parents are welcome to attend.**  We will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the library.  The IBPO is providing a pizza lunch for our students at the end of the meeting.  Thank you to our wonderful IBPO for this!

**We conduct a parent meeting in September in the evening for all junior and senior parents so that everyone has an opportunity to hear this information.**
