Winter Blues
As I look upon the landscape
on a cold winter's eve
I am embraced
by the beauty of the moon,
As it's reflection
dances upon the earth,
I am overcome
by its brilliant winter blues.
Just recently, I heard that as artists we have the ability to dream while we are awake. I believe this so true for me. I find myself roaming in another world dreaming of ways to bring to life landscapes and gardens that I have seen. Yet, all the while being present in this world pulling fibers out of drawers and bins to be able to make that beauty come alive into this reality. When I have completed an art piece, it makes me smile at the thought that it began with a daydream.

In the creation of"Winter Blues", I can say that I have made the beauty come alive. It was inspired by January's moons, and several daydreams, about moons, that I have had frequently for sometime.
To create the above art piece, I decided to explore free motion drawing with different textured threads and fibers on a felt base to see what effect the combination of these fibers would have with each other. I was so excited on the results.
I wanted to begin this year challenging myself to new ways of creating. It doesn't mean I leave behind what I know, not at all, it just mean that I will incorporate all of what I know to all of what I am learning, and maybe weed out somethings that are not working so well. In doing so, I can't wait to see the next daydream will come into existence. What a wonderful journey creating is.

"Flower Blooms"
In the midst of winter blues
I dream of sunny days
filled with smells of fresh cut grass
and the sweet perfume
of flowers blooming
by Ana Sumner
Designing, painting, and stitching are the techniques I used to create "Flower Blooms". The inspiration to create it came from many gardens I have visited in my travels.
