KNOWLEDGE SNIPPETS

Co-Impact and Network Leadership

February 2nd, 2018

Dear colleagues,

There has been exciting news since the last episode of the Knowledge Snippets: Co-Impact, a group of donors like Bill and Melinda Gates, Jeff Skoll, and The Rockefeller Foundation, have announced that they will spend 500 million dollars on system change initiatives. This will send a strong signal to other donors that they should look into the topic as well.

If you happen to get one of their 50 million dollar grants, here are some materials that you might find useful:
  • My colleague Florentine Roth has curated a list of materials on network leadership. In particular, there are some good, in-depth case studies that make the whole approach more tangible. (Some of the articles cost a couple of dollars to download. If you are a member of Ashoka, feel free to reach out.)
  • A while ago, I dedicated a Knowledge Snippet to the question: system change - big or small? The Stanford Social Innovation Review has just published a refined version of that argument. And for the purpose of shameless self-promotion: they also tweeted about the article, in case you want to spread the word.
  • Finally, I found something that has already been out there for over a year: David Peter Stroh, author of "Systems Thinking for Social Change", was interviewed by the System Smarts podcast with John Ackley. In 50 minutes, you get a great summary of different patterns of system dynamics. You can listen to the episode here or by searching for "System Smarts" in your favorite podcast app.
That's it for this issue of the Knowledge Snippets. Is there a resource that you particularly liked? Or one that should have made the list but didn't? Then reach out!
Until then, happy systems thinking and best regards,
Odin Mühlenbein
