Welcome again to Startup Digest Galway. After a relatively quiet January, I am currently not aware of any startup-oriented events happening in Galway in February so this issue focuses on startup related news.
NEW FRONTIERS New Frontiers GMIT is accepting applications to Phase 1 of New Frontiers until Friday, 16th March with the programme to start on 7th April. Email Trisha Carrick trisha.carrick@gmit.ie for an application form. Additional information: www.gmit.ie/new-frontiers
IT Sligo is also accepting applications for their New Frontiers Phase 1 programme. Closing date 23/2/2018 - visit newfrontiersnw.ie for more information and application form.
REPORTS: Startup Ireland and Ibec, the group that represents Irish business, have launched Ireland’s first Startup Manifesto. The purpose of the manifesto is to highlight areas that need improvement and to offer possible solutions to ensure that Ireland becomes a globally relevant startup hub. The 11-page pdf addresses issues across four key pillars – access to talent, access to finance, startup supports and the general business environment.
On a similar vein, this week TechIreland published a 65-page pdf entitled 'State of the Innovation Nation Review 2017 - Regions' combining its data with insights from regional advisors to develop this up to date view on innovation across 8 Irish counties.
DATES Best of luck to those applying for CSF 50 which closes today 6th February. CSF Call 51 Regional Entrepreneurship opens on 27th February next.
Applications now open for the National Enterprise Awards 2018 with the National Final taking place in the Mansion House in May. Application forms should be requested from the Local Enterprise Office at info@leo.galwaycoco.ie and returned along with a business plan and financial statements by Wednesday 28th February 2018.
Applications are also open for the Business All Stars - the final takes place at Croke Park on Thursday, April 19th, 2018 as part of The Fourth All Ireland Business Summit. Kieran of provenCoder asked for a mention for their national coding contest – The Crafty Coder. It’s open to everyone, from hobbyist coders to students and experienced pros. You can compete online and also compete at one of their 3 events in Cork, Galway (7th April) and the final in Dublin. You can compete in the language of your choice (even Cobol if you like). The contest kicks off on March 3rd, the final is in Dublin on April 28th. For more details follow them on Facebook and Twitter.
Finally, ISEN - the Irish Social Enterprise Network - recently launched a new 'Social Enterprise Toolkit'. This excellent resource addresses all of the issues that need to be considered when setting up a new social enterprise. Browse or download for free: https://www.socialenterprisetoolkit.ie
Best wishes Donncha
