In 2013, after hearing rumors of the legendary lost book, we decided to form a search party and call ourselves ‘The Helping Friendly Book Club’. On August 14th the Helping Friendly Book Club met for the first time at Boxwood Bar + Grill in Uptown Dallas to discuss “Another Roadside Attraction” by Tom Robbins.
In 2014, the idea to create ‘SEJ Talks’ and build the ‘Helping Friendly Little Free Library’ emerged out of the ‘Helping Friendly Book Club’,
On November 22nd, 2014 we hosted the first ever ‘SEJ Talks’ at ‘The Mandarin Door’ in the Dallas Design District and revealed the completed ‘Helping Friendly Little Free Library’ to the public for the first time.
On December 13, 2014 (12/13/14) we officially cut the ribbon and opened the ‘Helping Friendly Little Free Library’ behind Boxwood Bar + Grill at State and Thomas in Uptown Dallas.
In 2015, the community’s overwhelmingly positive response to ‘SEJ Talks’ and the first 'Helping Friendly Free Library’ led to the decision to form ‘The Helping Friendly Foundation’ as a 501c3. In August of that year we received our 501c3 status.
For the last two years we have been steadily growing the ‘Helping Friendly Book Club’ and developing our strategy for raising the free public book exchange movement to the level of an art form. (We are thrilled to share the first part of our plan with you tonight!)
