Project GROWS receives $249,000 grant
to improve local food access
Project GROWS is thrilled to announce a recent transformational grant award from the USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) as part of a Community Food Project!

This $249,190 grant award will span three years and focus on developing self-reliant local food systems that bring nutritious food to low-income communities. We will expand our nutrition and gardening programs in collaboration with multiple community partners, focusing specifically on: farm-to-school tastings featuring fresh produce from the farm, hands-on garden-based education on the farm and in the classroom, off-site gardening, nutrition, and food preparation education, and increased support for low-income individuals and families purchasing fresh food at local farmer’s markets.

Stay up to date with all of our programming by following us on

Wednesdays, April 4 - October 31
12:00pm to 5:00pm
Augusta County Government Center
We're back in the greenhouse watering our first seedlings of the season: greens, onions, tomatoes, and beets.
Meet Jane, the newest member of the Project GROWS team! A JMU senior majoring in Justice Studies, Jane is spending her spring semester on the farm.
Volunteers have started coming out to help prepare the farm for spring, including pruning blackberry bushes!
We took a trip to Edible Landscaping to work, learn, and earn "plant credits" to purchase fruit trees for Project GROWS in the future.
The United Way needs our help! Please join our board and staff members in making a $25 contribution to United Way today as part of the “Bridge the Gap” fundraising campaign.
After an unexpected 30% decrease in contributions this year, our local United Way is facing the difficult decision of cutting funding to their current partner agencies unless they are able to raise $50,000 by April. This would directly affect Project GROWS as well as many other incredible nonprofits providing essential services to our community.

here for more information and to learn how to make a contribution.
We are looking forward to getting down in the dirt this spring!
Thanks for partnering with us.
