Congratulations to Jennifer Rendlemen for receiving the Lifetime Member Recipient Award.  If there is a job to be done she will do it with her full heart.  Her dedication to our school, her children and fellow PTA members is unwavering.  Always willing to offer advice, her time and her sweet smile to those around her.  This award is much deserved and we are all so grateful for all you do!

This year Mrs. Holt was chosen to be given the Lifetime Member Recipient Award for teachers.  Her level of dedication and investment shines through in her students success.  She sets high standards and truly believes each child can rise to those standards.  Her encouraging nature and gentle spirit makes Mrs Holt one of a kind.  There is no doubt she finds joy in seeing her students flourish. Thank you isn't enough, but thank you!

We’ve been learning for a while

In fact, 100 days

We can spell, read, and write

We can count in many ways.

We’ve had fun and made good friends

But it isn’t over yet.

Let’s keep going, going, going,

And see how smart we get.

We are so excited about all the learning that has already taken place and all that is yet to come. Our kindergartners are reading and writing, 1st graders are extending their knowledge about numbers and science. Grade 2 is about to grow their own vegetables and grade 3 is writing more than ever. Fourth grade is tackling division and 5th grade is learning about the Revolutionary War. What is your child sharing with you about their school day? I remember my son expressing disbelief about how his son has a whole different life while at school; different friends, different interests, and different experiences. So much to share if we ask.

Here are some more examples of what is happening at FME this month.

Are you into basketball? Are you into supporting our local schools? Marcus HS has invited our school to join them for their girls and boys varsity games on Friday, Feb 2. Let’s show them we care.

PTA is hosting an assembly for all students on Friday, February 2 entitled Air the Invisible Wonder. Students will learn about atmospheric pressure, low and high pressure zones, and even the application of air pressure to the science of flight. They'll see how to measure the weight of air, how an airplane flies, and even discuss vacuums and shrink wrap a student in the process! Students will  learn about air and our atmosphere through a series of ultra-cool demonstrations showing the weight of air, the effects of atmosphere, and the properties and action involved in a vacuum. Additionally, a large section of the program is given over to demonstrations showing the effects of Bernoulli’s Principle of Fluid Dynamics. Thank you PTA!

We all know February is the month of red because of Valentine's day but what’s happening February 5th? Why will the teachers be wearing red? Teachers will be wearing red for Go Red for Women; the American Heart Association's national movement to end heart disease and stroke in women. Learn more, get involved, and take action

February 8th at 2 and 6:00PM, our 3rd Grade students will be performing for the student body and parents. Their program integrates their classroom science lesson about sound waves and what they have been learning in music. Come join our 3rd graders for an entertaining evening.

Fifth grade students will take their learning to the outdoors on Thursday and Friday, February 8 and 9th. Rain or cold will not stop our students from hiking the trails, performing experiments and  journaling all they learn. The objectives are: 1) empower students to solve problems, 2) get smart about environmental interactions, community resources, and social interactions that lead to sustainable living,  3) use scientific inquiry to grow awareness, knowledge, and skills in natural settings, enjoy nature and have fun close to home,  4) demonstrate responsible environmental stewardship,  5) develop strong, enduring collaborations with experts in resource conservation, habitat preservation, engineering, sustainable research applications, and local community history.

Our School Board will be meeting on February 12 at 7:00pm. Come see what is going on in our district at the district level.

Valentine's Day is Wednesday, February 14. Our fabulous PTA will be hosting the Valentine's Day parties at 2:15. They will be ordering cookies for each classroom’s party and students are encouraged to create their own valentines box. For more information, watch your classroom newsletters.

Are you looking forward to going to Six Flags this summer with your children? Do they love to read? Well, put the two together and be sure to participate in the Six Flags Reading Program. The forms are due, Friday, February 16th to Mrs. Thakur in the library.

Six flags not your thing? How about jumping rope? We challenge you to come in and jump rope with your students the week of February 19-23 as we participate in Jump Rope For Heart. If I can do it so can you.

Children’s Book Week will help end an exciting month as students dress as their favorite characters, participate in some Dr Seuss shenanigans and read, read, read. Watch your classroom newsletter and the Library website to learn more about the Children’s Book Week happening

PTA has several open positions still needing to be filled with PTA President being one of them.  Please let us know if you are interested in volunteering, filling a position or simply joining this amazing group!  Also a General PTA Meeting will be held February 14th at 1:00pm before the Valentines Parties!

We are still in need of photos of your precious children for the yearbook.  Please send any and all photos to  fmeyearbook@gmail.com

Thank you,

Flower Mound ES is extremely proud of our staff as we believe it is of the utmost importance that we have teachers who are loving, caring and experienced in teaching elementary academics.

Thank
you parents and guardians, and PTA for all your support.

Sign up to be a mentor for a child who could use a friend. Just 20-30 minutes of your time per week talking, listening, tutoring would mean so much to a child. Please email Melissa Crawford at crawford.home@verizon.net. Thank you!
