Catholic Schools Week

Seniors l to r:  Abby Chermack, Sydney Johnston and Megan Lutterbaugh enjoy a cup of tea and cookies during Catholic Schools Week.

MPS kicked off the celebration of Catholic Schools Week with a special liturgy on Monday morning.  Cousins Mason Baganski ’18, Kathryn DeDionisio ’18, and
William Iamuzzella ’20 were the gift bearers.

Congratulations to science teacher Kathy Swanson and admissions director Marcia DiTullio, who were honored after mass for their many years of service to Mercyhurst Prep.

Each day, one class was treated to a Comfortable Cup of Tea, a tradition from Sisters of Mercy foundress, Catherine McAuley as they listened to students speak about the critical concerns of the Sisters.  Students also received special perks during the week like fun tie day, sweat pants day, jeans day and pajama day.  Treats of donuts, cookies, and sundaes were offered as well.  The week will close with the traditional Touch of Class Day assembly today.

Service Announcement

Junior Matt Ahrens is organizing a service project which will take place Saturday, February 17, from 2-4 p.m. in the MPS cafeteria. Students will be packaging dehydrated ingredients into individual meals which will then sent throughout the world to those in need. There are jobs ranging from pouring ingredients into a funnel to lifting 50lb bags of rice, so all the help possible is needed.

If you are unable to donate time, please consider donating monetarily. It only costs $0.29 a meal, so every single bit counts.

The goal is to package 10,000 meals, so the impact has great possibilities for people around the world.

Please sign up and/or donate using the following link:

35 mm Cameras Needed

Do you have a working 35 mm camera that’s been in your closet unused for twenty years?  If you do, we can certainly use it. The photography department is always in need of cameras for students taking photography classes as electives.  Many of them don’t own cameras, and the school would like to be able to provide a camera for every student enrolled.

If you do have a 35 mm camera that you would like to donate, you can just drop it off at the attendance office with your name.  If your camera requires batteries and you have some on hand, we would also be grateful if you could include those.
