This week we begin the UCIS-wide series, Global Legacies of 1968, kicks off with a keynote address from Todd Gitlin, Professor of Journalism and Sociology at Columbia University. Ruth Crawford Mitchell Fellowship

The Nationality Rooms Program is proud to announce the availability of the annual Ruth Crawford Mitchell Fellowship which will enable a Czech or Slovak professional to conduct research at the University of Pittsburgh during the 2018 Fall Term. Applications require a reference from a University of Pittsburgh faculty member who will serve as a mentor to the scholar. John G. Bowman Faculty Grants for Research Abroad
Deadline: February 28, 2018
 
Five grants of $2,000 are available to full-time faculty members who have been teaching a minimum of one year at the University of Pittsburgh. Three grants of $2,000 will be awarded to part-time faculty members who have been teaching a minimum of three years at the University of Pittsburgh. 16th Annual Undergraduate Research Conference on the European Union 
Deadline: February 16, 2018 

The conference is open to all undergraduate students in the US and internationally. Students may pursue a wide range of topics that reflects their curiosity, expertise, and past research. Topics may deal with any aspect of European integration or transatlantic relations. Select papers will be published in a special volume of conference proceedings and two students will receive travel awards for the Brussels Week-Long Summer Study trip.The Center will cover hotel room for 2 nights and conference meals for accepted participants. European Horizons D.C. Trip 
Deadline: February 7

EU Horizons invites undergraduate students to apply to their trip to Washington D.C Activities include visits to two European embassies and the European Parliament Liaison Office to discuss Brexit, Western Balkan accession, transatlantic relations, and more. Meals will be at the expense of the participants. Transportation will be arranged and accommodations are included. Email pitt@europeanhorizons.org to request application materials or more information. 

Call for papers: “Diversity in the Lusosphere: encounters, connections, and communities” 
Deadline: February 28 

This seminar aims to explore the amazing diversity of culture and history in the Lusosphere. We will celebrate cultures, identities, and the many voices of the Portuguese-speaking world. The possibility of discussing the meanings of the Portuguese language in its diversity of sociolinguistic and cultural contexts is a way to promote intercultural dialogue for joint and meaningful construction of knowledge.
