Council Minutes
The Pastors Carlson are currently on family leave after the birth of their son. Please contact the office for any inquiries while they are away, including pastoral care. Thank you!
A major thank you to everyone who helped make the Celebrations of Life for Bob Harvey, Toney Ledford and Vern Brody so beautiful. There are so many of you, who are always will to help, that I can’t name you all. But I wanted you to know that you are so appreciated!!
And prayers to Bob, Toney and Vern’s families. Mt. Carmel definitely feels the loss.
Thank you, thank you,
Nancy Priddy
Notice from the Financial Secretary:
If you did not receive a statement of giving for 2017, and you made contributions to the church, please contact the Financial Secretary (805) 543-5691 or cgrosse@charter.net. I would need the dates and amount of your contributions to add them to our data base. Some statements were given out after church last week and some have been mailed this week.

Hop aboard the Meal Train!!

Pastors Carlson have their hands with Cora and Baby Boy.  Let’s help them out by crossing one stress off of their list: dinner.  If you can help by making a meal one day (or several), please email Shannon Babcock at sbabcock1996@yahoo.com and she will send you the link to sign up to bring a meal.  All the information you will need will be on the Meal Train site.  If you know of someone who’d like to help but does not have internet access, please have them call Shannon at (805) 602-1759 and she will plug them in!
Thank you!!
Volunteer Opportunities!
We are in need of some fresh faces to fill Sunday volunteer positions. If you would like to commit to once a month or as a back-up, please email or call the office at 805-544-2133 or info@mtcarmelslo.org. Here are the duties that we need help with:
First Service Greeters
Second Service Greeters
Second Service Communion Assistants

We are also looking for more coffee servers to join on Sundays. Both services are open for more volunteers. Please contact Carol Harvey for more information at a.g.mom@earthlink.net or 805-481-2418.
Beginning the Year in Mutual Ministry
From Your Mutual Ministry Team:

I’ve been doing some soul searching this week after reading this scripture from Romans entitled, “Marks of the True Christian”. “Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to the strangers.  Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly; do not claim to be wiser than you are. Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all. If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peacefully with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12:9-21
It’s pretty overwhelming, right? I found myself falling short on every line. How about you? Will you join me this week in praying, “Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!”  Psalm 139:23, 24      Jean Senter
Don’t miss our very special guest, at the Brown Bag Lunch Group, Friday, Feb. 9, at noon.
Our presenter for the afternoon will be John Lindsey, corporate relations representative for PG&E at Diablo Canyon. John has been forecasting weather and oceanographic conditions along the Central Coast for 19 years. You can also read his articles in the Tribune.
With Diablo Canyon frequently highlighted in the news, and what the future will bring for the power plant, our speaker will present an overview on Diablo Canyon, and possible plans for the future.
Bring your questions, your brown bag and a friend, and join us on Feb. 9. Questions or to RSVP – Nancy Priddy, 459-9249
