YOUR Doomsday Clock

You catch the piece from last week that The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists put out re the symbolic Doomsday Clock?  That it's a notch closer to the end of humanity - two minutes to "midnight" (adios, amigos.............!!!!!!!!!!) - specifically, due to the failure of world leaders (he of the orange head of hair included) to deal with nuclear war and climate change.

So what in the name of an asteroid from another solar system (spotted late last year, pic above) does this have to do with you getting the little white ball in the hole sooner, whilst enjoying the ride?  A LOT, actually.  Tick...tick...tick...

All Hat and No Cattle

The 'experts,' looming everywhere.  Sexy.  Enticing.  Eliciting cravings.  Longer drives.  Crisper wedge play.  More putts made.  But... where are they coming from?  Yet another galaxy? What is their background, experience and expertise in playing golf, motor learning, and human performance & behavior?  Do you know?

The Doomsday Clock peeps?  Theoretical physicist Lawrence M. Krauss and astrophysicist Robert Rosner, Bulletin officials.  Their take:

"To call the world nuclear situation dire is to underestimate the danger - and it's immediacy."

Add Alex Wellerstein, who specializes in the history of nuclear weapons at the Stevens Institute of Technology:

"We have members of Congress, White House Advisers, and even the president implying that war with a nuclear state is not only likely, but it's potentially desirable.  That's unusual and disturbing."

Unusual and disturbing.  Like your golf swing and game stuck in neutral (or going backwards).  Like the confusion in your head with all the 'can't miss' options out there.  Like the snake oil salesman of the latest and greatest trends, tech & methods.

I understand.  But Don't Fear the Reaper, on or off the links.  I've got a plan - with assists from Seth Godin, and Blue Oyster Cult (a power 3-some).  Really.  Step 1: click on the legsy cowgirl above (volume UP, eyes closed) for this timeless blast from the boys at BOC - then c'mon back for some guidance on how to keep YOUR Doomsday Clock from getting any closer to midnight...

"Seasons don't fear the reaper
Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain, we can be like they are"

You're afraid, aren't you?  Go ahead, take a good, hard look at the flesh and bones in the mirror and at the very least - yet the very most important - admit it to yourself.  Afraid to dive into something new, that with some time, energy and full commitment and belief (sorry, no Amazon Prime Now available) will be better.  Afraid to be accountable.  Afraid to give up being fair to be good, or good to be great.

Yet, you too can be like the seasons, you just gotta start, brothers and sisters.

"Merely beginning.
With inadequate preparation, because you will never be fully prepared.
With imperfect odds of success, because the odds are never perfect.
Begin. With the humility of someone who's not sure, and the excitement of someone who knows that it's possible."

"Romeo and Juliet
Are together in eternity, Romeo and Juliet
40, 000 men and women everyday, Like Romeo and Juliet
40, 000 men and women everyday, Redefine happiness
Another 40, 000 coming everyday, We can be like they are"

Redefine yourself as a golfer.  As a human being.  As a resident of this miraculous planet.  You can be like those who are doing so already.  Just a choice, some daily practice, and a little guidance & encouragement.  The hard part?

"The hard part isn't coming up with the new idea.
The hard part is falling out of love with the old idea.
In order to make the new thing, to make the old thing better, you need to destroy it first."

Who or what have you fallen in love with?  The loudest voice on SM?  The pitch of the person who used to play for a living, but hasn't realized that you are not him or her?  The coolest-looking gizmo that has no evidence-based research behind it?  Time to fall out of love, Romeos & Juliets, and find the ways that work best for you.  May that other-worldly asteroid come and destroy the old patterns (swing, behaviors, emotions) so you can create the new.

CS Escape in So Cal

Plenty of healthy, functional and fun pieces to be created in the sun at Pauma Valley Country Club, February 22-25, 2018 during this golf + yoga (our fantabulous teacher, Ali Matt, below) + chill gathering.

A space or two still available - but the Doomsday Clock for this escape is clicking as well.  Click on pic above for specifics.  AND: we've added some options for those of you who may not be able to come for the entire stay.  1 day, 2 days, yoga only...

Also: I'm here at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club for all your golf needs thru early March, then hanging my hat with cattle, at Eugene Country Club.

"One of the sad things today is that so many people are frightened by the wonder of their own presence. They are dying to tie themselves into a system, a role, or to an image, or to a predetermined identity that other people have actually settled on for them. This identity may be totally at variance with the wild energies that are rising inside in their souls. Many of us get very afraid and we eventually compromise. We settle for something that is safe, rather than engaging the danger and the wildness that is in our own hearts."
