Lá le Bríde arrives just as signs of spring are more evident, drawing our attention to the promise of life. Receiving life doesn't always happen easily. We hope that some of the opportunities - either new or returning - we list here may be of help to you in noticing where growth and hope may be for you.
Mark’s Gospel portrays Jesus as Son of God, showing us how prayer and relationship with Abba was integral to the mission of Jesus. We are invited by Jesus to be companions in his mission – to think, act and pray as he does.
In this 5-day Preached Retreat, Mike Drennan SJ will offer reflections on the Gospel of Mark, showing how we Jesus calls us into deeper discipleship.

This weekend - Our New Earth Awareness: Responding to Pope Francis' call to ecological conversion - will be led by Donal Dorr and will guide participants in experiencing and expressing their faith and commitment in a way that takes account of our new earth awareness. Donal will lead the group through a reflection on how the 'ecological conversion' which Pope Francis has called for, will influence the way in which we express our faith in God, in Jesus, in the Holy Spirit, in the Christian Community, the Human Community, and the Community of the Earth - and how we commit ourselves to live out our ecological conversion.
8:00 pm Friday 2 March to 3:00 pm Sunday 4 March 2018

This series of talks has treated of calls to reform and spiritual renewal within the Roman Catholic Church itself and also among groups which were considered heretical prior to Martin Luther – groups such as The Lollards; the Waldensians and the Hussites. This season, it goes on to concentrate on the life, spirituality and theology of Desiderius Erasmus and Martin Luther, in particular. Some mention will be made of John Calvin and Ulrich Zwingli. Finally, we will look to see how historically accurate it is to judge Saints Ignatius Loyola and Pierre Favre as Counter-Reformation figures. The talk on Thursday 8 February will consider Luther, Calvin and Zwingli.
John Keane, European Regional Director of The BioSpiritual Institute, will host three introductory sessions in February, describing how the practice of BioSpiritual Focusing can help support healthy spiritual and psychological growth. In these sessions, John will discuss the steps, offering brief exercises to illustrate how focusing attends to often neglected aspects of experience. The first session will consider how parents of young children might benefit from the insights of focusing.
Each month, a film will be preceded by a brief introduction and afterwards there will be an opportunity to reflect both personally and as a group on the issues and values illustrated.
The Film for December
School of Babel
France, 2013, 89 mins, Cert PG
This fascinating documentary film tells the story of an adaptation class in a Parisian school. In this class we meet young immigrant children aged 11-15 from Ireland, Senegal, Morocco, China etc. who have just arrived in Paris. The film shows the young people's early attempts to grasp the French language and reveals to us a little about their hopes and dreams for the future.
Each evening begins at 7:30 pm and involves watching a film and participating in reflective discussion guided by Eileen O’Brien.
Plan now to take some time out in January by booking for the Oasis Day on Saturday 17 February 2018. The day will offer some time of quiet and make space to consider what the year ahead offers. The days begin with registration at 9:30 am and conclude by 6:00 pm. They take place in an atmosphere of quiet where you can decide which of the elements on offer are most helpful to you, choosing from reflections, guided prayer and an opportunity to meet with a spiritual director. Mass is celebrated as part of the day.
These workshops will involve prayer, silence and sharing. Participants will have opportunities to consider favourite poems and music and to reflect on them prayerfully. Guided by the insights of Ignatian spirituality in an atmosphere of attention to what inspires, these meetings will help to recognise and appreciate what inspires and invite light into life.
