Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” ~ Isaiah 43:18-19
I hope you are well and that the Lord has blessed you in this season, I’m so grateful that spring is coming and that the Lord is at work at the University of Oregon.

Winter Camp was a Blast!

Thank you for your prayers for Winter Camp! We got to bring five students with us to take part in a gathering of all the Chi Alpha groups from around the Northwest--including one non-Christian international student (on the left in the picture below). We got to hear speakers from several of the campuses, including Brady Bobbink, director at the Chi Alpha at WWU. This was especially cool for our students who are participating in our Discipleship Class, because they've heard about how Brady developed the D-Class materials and getting to hear him in person was a real treat!
I got to have a great conversation with Joyce (second from the left above) about her motivations for doing ministry and talk through what it means to be motivated by our identity in Christ, rather than obligation or a sense of duty. Sometimes we have to do things even when we don't feel like it it, but Jesus desires our hearts to become aligned with his! Part of that process is realizing who we are in Jesus and realizing that Jesus has that same love and value for each and every person we talk to. It's not only our job, as followers of Jesus, to share that love--it's our JOY!

"The mystery of ministry is that we have been chosen to make our own limited and very conditional love the gateway for the unlimited and unconditional love of God." In the Name of Jesus by Henri Nouwen

D-Class is in Full Swing!

It's been so fun to see how are students have gotten excited about D-Class. They're eager to learn about the Kingdom of God and what it means to make disciples and we've had some great conversations so far. We've been reading Henri Nouwen's Out of Solitude and discussing the profound reality that we are not defined by what we accomplish for God, but in how we dwell with him. This is a foundation stone of what it means to be and make disciples, because as I was telling Joyce, our rooted-ness in Christ is the only sustainable motivation for ministry. The only way that we discover who we are in Christ, and his will for our lives, is by resting in his presence. When we stop striving, stop working, stop busying ourselves, stop making noise, we are able to hear the still small voice of our Lord.
I have been so encouraged by all the work that the Lord has been doing so far this term. We've seen both individual growth, as well as growth in the ministry over all. It's slow and steady work, but it has been such a blessing!
