A blue plaque for Reliant

As detailed in our special newsletter last July, the Reliant Motor Club achieved one of its major goals in seeing a blue plaque being officially unveiled at Tom Williams' former residence at Bro-Dawel on the Kettlebrook Road in Tamworth.  This was the house where the first Reliant prototype was built in the rear garden by Reliant co-founders, Tom L Williams and Ewart (Tommo) Thompson.  The plaque was due to be unveiled by Tommo Thompson's daughter, Pat Afford. Sadly Pat was in hospital on the day and so the plaque was unveiled by her daughter, Charlotte Oliver.

News of the plaque brought with it some superb media coverage for the club with articles appearing in the Tamworth Herald, Classic Car Weekly, Classic Car Buyer and Practical Classics magazine.  The Editor of Classic Car Buyer especially told us he was determined to make this quite a feature and published a wonderful article that covered a whole page. Practical Classics magazine have always been fans of the Reliant and likewise they gave the blue plaque story plenty of space in the September issue.  News was also published on websites like Tamworth Informed and the Blue Plaque website in addition to being displayed in Tamworth in the Tamworth Heritage Trust shop window,  that especially drew a lot of attention for former Reliant employees within the town.

Best Wishes,

Caroline

You asked, we listened!
Whilst all appears to be quiet on the surface of our latest website update, we have been listening to your feedback and have been busy making a number of changes behind the scenes.

By popular request we have now added the option of either a 1 year or 2 year membership.  At £8.50, a 1 year membership offers exceedingly good value although you can now save £1.50 (based on 2 years at the standard cost) by opting for a 2 year membership at £15.50.  All new members will be presented with the option to sign up for either 1 or 2 years.  Existing members on a 1 year membership will have the option to extend their membership by 1 or 2 years when their existing membership is due for renewal.  If you sign up for 2 years before your renewal date, don't worry, we will amend the date so that the 2 years start after that date.

Some members have also asked if it is possible to get an automated email reminding them that their membership is due for renewal.  Again we have taken this on board and implemented additional changes so that an email is automatically sent out on the renewal date.

In addition we have also made a few other tweaks that members have suggested and this includes changes to the "View my profile" area.  When you visit this section you can see how long your membership runs for and on what day it expires.  In this section you can also see other information about your account including any payments that were made via Paypal.

We always value your feedback and if you have any suggestions that you think could improve our website or the club then please contact us at members@reliantclub.co.uk

RELIANT MOTOR CLUB REVIEW: No 2
The second edition of the RELIANT MOTOR CLUB REVIEW was released last July and the response from it has been fantastic.  We are delighted that it was so well received and that everyone enjoyed reading it. As with our first edition, some members felt that the magazine alone was worth the membership fee the RMC charges. Our aim is to continue producing magazines that have a variety of articles within them. Past magazines can be viewed here.

Remember, this is your club so if you have a story or anything you would like to share with club members via the magazine then please let us know.
Membership Renewals
Now the club is over 1 year old a number of memberships are now due for renewal.  This means that whilst you will still get newsletters*, you will not be able to access our magazines or archive material on the website.

You can easily renew your membership by clicking here to login and follow the link to renew your subscription. You can choose a 1 or 2 year renewal option.

We thank all those who have already renewed their membership, we hope you enjoy your second year with us.

*Please inform us if you do not wish to receive these newsletters and we will remove your name from our database.
The RMC is truly international
We currently have members in Australia, France, Germany, India, Israel, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and the USA.   We welcome all new members and hope that you are finding membership of the RMC both enjoyable and interesting.

Supporting Reliant Clubs & Organisations
One of the key aims of the RMC is to co-exist and work alongside other clubs and so we feel compelled to also thank the Reliant Sabre and Scimitar Owners Club, the Bug Club and the Kitten Register for all their encouragement and cooperation. They have demonstrated that a club like the RMC can co-exist with other clubs and share resources.  The RMC is also a member of the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs, the Tamworth Heritage Trust, the National Association of Motor Car and Bikes club and shares resources with the Staffordshire County Council Archives Department.
