Beloveds of God,

Because the world is broken. Lord in your mercy
Hear our Prayer
In the face of yet another reminder of just how broken it is Lord in your mercy
Hear our Prayer
For all those that mourn the unnatural loss of their beloved ones Lord in your mercy
Hear our Prayer

Events like those of this past Wednesday in Florida are not the only place that we see the brokenness of the world, but certainly the all too frequent events such as the shooting at the school in Florida are especially extreme and painful reminders of that brokenness.

So with the families and the friends and the classmates we mourn and we hope and pray for a better world.

Blessing the Dust
A Blessing for Ash Wednesday by Jan Richardson

All those days
you felt like dust,
like dirt,
as if all you had to do
was turn your face
toward the wind
and be scattered
to the four corners

or swept away
by the smallest breath
as insubstantial—

Did you not know
what the Holy One
can do with dust?

This is the day
we freely say
we are scorched.

This is the hour
we are marked
by what has made it
through the burning.

This is the moment
we ask for the blessing
that lives within
the ancient ashes,
that makes its home
inside the soil of
this sacred earth.

So let us be marked
not for sorrow.
And let us be marked
not for shame.
Let us be marked
not for false humility
or for thinking
we are less
than we are

but for claiming
what God can do
within the dust,
within the dirt,
within the stuff
of which the world
is made,
and the stars that blaze
in our bones,
and the galaxies that spiral
inside the smudge
we bear.

Peace
PDC

A mistake was made on the dates on the new People’s Kitchen Schedules from October to February.  Prior year dates were listed for those months instead of current year dates.   When marking your calendars, please remember that we always serve on the 1st Friday of the month.  Contact Laura Krueger if you have any questions or would like a corrected schedule printed for you (call or text 805-458-6012 or email
laurasalazar67@gmail.com).
Jean Hohenstein has a piano for sale. If interested, please contact her at 805-489-0747.
Notice from the Financial Secretary:
If you did not receive a statement of giving for 2017, and you made contributions to the church, please contact the Financial Secretary (805) 543-5691 or cgrosse@charter.net. I would need the dates and amount of your contributions to add them to our data base. Some statements were given out after church last week and some have been mailed this week.

Hop aboard the Meal Train!!

Pastors Carlson have their hands with Cora and Baby Boy.  Let’s help them out by crossing one stress off of their list: dinner.  If you can help by making a meal one day (or several), please email Shannon Babcock at sbabcock1996@yahoo.com and she will send you the link to sign up to bring a meal.  All the information you will need will be on the Meal Train site.  If you know of someone who’d like to help but does not have internet access, please have them call Shannon at (805) 602-1759 and she will plug them in!
Thank you!!
