Letter from Dole
Bananas and plantains are experiencing an industry-wide shortage of product. There have been many factors that have contributed to this situation.

We have had ongoing challenges in Honduras due to the political situations which resulted in protests, roadblocks, etc. This has provided some logistical challenges, but we have been able to work around them fairly well.

Additionally, we are facing adverse weather conditions in all growing regions. These conditions have caused the fruit to slow down the growing process.
Cloudiness and low temperature which have reached 20 year lows in all growing regions.
We continue experiencing strong rains in Honduras, mainly in the north coast. So far there has been no flooding at the farms, but the level of the rivers in high causing road issues.
We have had some packing interruptions in Costa Rica due to threat of flooding in growing regions.
Cold front started affecting Guatemala with strong rains on the Atlantic side.
Volume will continue to be tight through the beginning of March from what we can tell at this time.

Vessels have had their challenges due to cutting against the boat to get as much fruit loaded as possible as well as weather causing high swells.

The combination of these circumstances has created a major shortage in supply for the banana industry. We will continue to do the best we can to service you during this situations. We do appreciate and value your business.
