Celebrate Presidents' Day at the Notch
Coolidge re-enactor Tracy Messer will perform as President Coolidge at 2:00 PM on Presidents' Day: Monday, February 19, 2018.
Please join us this coming Monday, February 19, from noon to 4:00 PM for our Presidents' Day Open House at Plymouth Notch.

Tracy Messer will be headlining the day with a 2:00 PM performance as President Coolidge. Mr. Messer will recreate an address President Coolidge delivered in honor of George Washington on Mr. Washington's birthday (February 22) in 1926.

William Jenney, site administrator, will offer a preview of the upcoming season's special exhibit: "Presidential Holiday: The Coolidge Summer Retreats, 1924 - 1928," and at 1:00 PM, education director Diane Kemble will make a short presentation on this year’s Calvin Writing Prize topic: Coolidge and civil rights.

Throughout the afternoon guests can enjoy the museum exhibit, explore hands-on activities for all ages in the Coolidge Classroom, and walk through the quiet village where Coolidge was born, grew up, returned to, and was sworn in as our nation’s 30th President. The Plymouth Cheese Factory will also be open.

Special thanks to the Vermont Division for Historic Preservation for its partnership in making this event possible.

Calvin Writing Prize
Each year the Coolidge Foundation encourages Vermont students to discover lessons from the Coolidge presidency by competing for the Calvin Writing Prize.

This year's contest asks students to write a speech they would deliver as president of the United States urging their fellow citizens to correct an injustice with respect to equal rights for all. Students must use examples from President Calvin Coolidge’s life and values when preparing their speech.

The first place winner will receive $1,500 and the runner-up will receive $500. More information is available here.

The deadline to submit is May 11, 2018.
